It’s Friday, January 17th, 2023…but before we begin, when we first read the following headline…

Ex-CNN anchor Chris Cuomo says firing consumed him: ‘I was gonna kill everybody, including myself

…we must confess the first two thoughts which entered our mind was, “It would have been the only good thing you ever did in your otherwise useless life!” (exclamation mark included!), and “Does “everybody” include your self-serving, narcissistic sibling?”

Now, here’s The Gouge!

First up, NRO‘s Andy McCarthy relates, like everything else Joe said in his speech…

Biden’s SOTU Boasts about Decreasing Illegal Immigration Were Fraudulent, Too

The president hasn’t fixed the problem; he has covered it up through a legally baseless sleight of hand.

Right before I read Jim Geraghty’s excellent Corner post on how President Biden’s State of the Union boasts about inflation were, well, inflated, I happened to read a report by Andrew R. Arthur, the stellar analyst at the Center for Immigration Studies, on how Biden’s SOTU boasts about dramatic improvement in the crisis of illegal immigration at the southern border are also absurdly overblown.

In his speech, Biden brayed, “Since we launched our new border plan last month, unlawful migration from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela has come down 97 percent.” I will come momentarily to the administration’s new border plan, which, as I observed when Biden rolled it out, is both illegal and a political fraud. For now, though, let’s stick with what the president said. Even at face value, it was exaggeration. As Arthur runs the numbers, there was a decrease in unlawful migration from the four countries in question between December 2022 and January 2023, but it was a decrease of just 76 percent — and even that statistic makes the Biden administration’s immigration policies sound a lot more successful than they’ve actually been.

Because of Biden’s policies, illegal immigration is at astronomical, previously unseen levels, so any decrease, no matter how noticeable, is going to be a fall from unprecedented heights. And when you widen the time frame, comparing January 2023 with January 2021 (when Biden took office, and thus before his policies took hold) and January 2020 (before Covid shut down even most illicit travel), the picture starts to look a lot different from the one Biden painted. As Arthur shows, apprehensions from the four countries Biden mentioned were up 400 percent in January 2023 compared to January 2021, and an astonishing 1,275 percent compared with January 2020.

Now, about Biden’s new border plan: It is not reducing the number of illegal aliens detained at the border; it is concealing the number of illegal aliens released into the country through a “parole” scam.

The scam works this way: Rather than trying to cross illegally at the border, aliens are now encouraged to arrange entry into the U.S. at CBP ports set up in northern Mexico. There, even if they do not have a valid asylum claim (which the vast majority do not, because a valid claim must meet a high evidentiary burden), they will be given “parole” so long as they can show a potential claim of credible fear of persecution in their home country (a very low standard).

As we shall see, the administration has no legal authority to grant such “parole.” Nevertheless, compliant and uninformed media are reporting on the plan as if it were legitimate and the “paroled” aliens were entering our country lawfully. The “parole” purports to authorize illegal aliens to work in the U.S. and lasts for two years, plenty of time to establish other ties (marriage, children) that will make it practically impossible to expel them — assuming that they show up for legal proceedings, and that the overrun system even schedules those proceedings in the foreseeable future. That is, Biden has presumed the unilateral power to amend statutory immigration law, in effect granting asylum to illegal aliens who do not meet the qualifications Congress has prescribed — aliens who are merely economic migrants, who could have applied for asylum in countries they passed through before arriving at a U.S. port of entry, and who do not have a cognizable fear of persecution in their native countries.

Biden’s parole program is lawless, which is why it is now being challenged in a Texas federal court by 20 states (including Florida, which has also brought a lawsuit in a Florida federal court). As I’ve explained a number of times, federal immigration law mandates that illegal aliens “shall be detained” from the time they are first encountered by federal authorities until their cases are disposed of (i.e., until they are either deported or granted asylum or some other statutorily authorized right to remain)…”

If ever there were grounds for impeaching a President, even an illegitimate one, Biden’s complete disregard for national security, sovereignty and the rule of law is an open and shut case.  And his advocacy on behalf of Xi Jinping and the PRC is the very definition of treason.

Next, in what will come as a shock to no one, before the NTSB has issued even a preliminary finding regarding the cause of the East Palestine, OH train disaster, an accident to which Mayor Pete took over 10 days to respond, Biden’s hopelessly-over-his-head Secretary of Transportation is attempting to blame The Donald for the derailment.

Given his level of detachment, we’d suggest Pete thought the Secretary of Transportation’s role was recording meeting minutes.

In a related video, Tucker identifies an interesting aspect of the curious lack of interest in the tragedy shown by both the Biden clown car and the MSM:

Tucker’s assertion the Biden clown care couldn’t care less about the plight of East Palestine is borne out by this headline from FOX:

Biden admin turns down Ohio’s request for disaster assistance after toxic derailment

FEMA continues to tell Governor DeWine that Ohio is not eligible for assistance,’ governor’s office says

“…The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) told Ohio’s state government that it was not eligible for disaster assistance to help the community recover from the toxic spill, Dan Tierney, a spokesperson for DeWine, told Fox News Digital on Thursday. Tierney explained that FEMA believed the incident didn’t qualify as a traditional disaster, such as a tornado or hurricane, for which it usually provides assistance…”

Here’s the juice, in meme form:

Politico ‘distorted’ the 2020 letter signed by 51 ex-intel officials? Now he tells us.

Whether or not GOP House oversight yields answers about 2020 election meddling, it is at least producing some fantastical squirming and finger pointing. See this week’s incredulous Clapper defense.

That would be James Clapper, the Obama director of national intelligence, one of 51 former intelligence officials who in October 2020 issued a highly consequential letter. The New York Post had revealed contents of a laptop that belonged to Hunter Biden. The information raised ugly questions about his use of the Biden family name in his foreign business dealings and the extent to which his father knew about them. With weeks to go in a close presidential campaign, the laptop bomb might have derailed Joe Biden’s White House bid.

Instead, the intel cabal neutralized the threat almost overnight. “Hunter Biden story is Russian disinfo, dozens of former intel officials say,” blared a Politico headline on Oct. 19, 2020. The Clapper & Co. letter explained that the supposed Hunter emails had “all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation,” making the signers “deeply suspicious that the Russian government played a significant role in this case.” They had no evidence, but the letter served its purpose by providing the news media, Democrats and social-media censors the excuse to suppress the story.

But the laptop was real, and Republicans suddenly have subpoena power. Hence the remarkable sight this week of Mr. Clapper and fellow signatories resurfacing to blame their 2020 tradecraft on the press. The catalyst for this convenient claim is a batch of letters sent last week by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan to 12 of the letter’s signers, demanding documents and interviews about their decision to issue a public statement that “falsely implied” the Hunter story was bogus.

This inspired the Washington Post’s “fact checker,” Glenn Kessler, to provide the conspirators a favorable forum to make an early defense. “Politico deliberately distorted what we said,” Mr. Clapper complained, saying the writers were merely raising a “yellow” flag. “Journalists and politicians willfully or unintentionally misconstrue oral or written statements,” lamented Thomas Fingar, who protested the letter had been “carefully written to minimize” that likelihood. Several unnamed signers meanwhile told Mr. Kessler they believed at the time that a significant amount of the material the Post reported was true—since Russians tend to build disinformation campaigns on facts. That would seem a crucial point, yet the signers somehow omitted it from their letter.

As blame-shifting goes, the press is usually a solid dumping spot. Yet in this case, the signers’ claims are laughable. Start with the partisan motivations. Mr. Clapper and John Brennan, President Obama’s director of the Central Intelligence Agency, were the most politicized officials to ever hold their posts, and were hip-deep in the 2016 Russia-collusion hoax. Most of the rest of the signers were Biden supporters or Never Trumpers. The press made hay of the “bipartisan” quality of the letter, but the conservative side featured folks like Mike Hayden, George W. Bush’s CIA director, who prior to signing the letter had cut an ad beseeching the country not to vote for Donald Trump.

Also consider the hand-picked messenger. Former Brennan aide Nick Shapiro didn’t approach any old Politico reporter with the letter: He chose Natasha Bertrand, who served as one of the key outlets for the outlandish Russia-collusion claims that opposition-research firm Fusion GPS and former Obama officials shopped four years earlier. The letter writers knew exactly what they were getting by going to this reporter—and more likely than not the headline reflected their intent. This was no press sandbagging; it was press cooperation.

And then there’s the silence. No signers complained about the Politico letter after its publication. None corrected the record as dozens of outlets repeated the supposed distortion. No one said a word when Joe Biden, in a presidential debate and a CBS interview, used the letter to declare definitively that the laptop story was “disinformation from the Russians,” “a bunch of garbage,” a “Russian plan” and a “smear campaign.”

As to the muteness, Mr. Clapper claimed to be “unaware” of how Mr. Biden described the letter. Did he and his 50 co-signers make a pact to skip the presidential debate, to tune out all subsequent coverage, and never to communicate again? Surely one would have noticed the “distorted” claim and felt compelled to alert the others. And surely a group capable of collaborating on the letter was capable of correcting the record.

They didn’t, because they didn’t want to. The letter served its purpose. It was written by an intel community that knows well how to manipulate a narrative. It was written by a group of officials who abused their titles—and the public’s belief that their backgrounds gave them unique insights—to peddle a claim for which they had no evidence. It was written to benefit Mr. Biden’s election bid.

Any claims to the opposite are what you might call disinformation.

Here’s a second shot of the juice: Kim is too kind.  Clapper, Brenner, Hayden and everyone else who signed that letter weren’t merely disseminating disinformation, they were broadcasting bald-faced lies while breaking the 9th Commandment by bearing false witness.  Considering the fact God Almighty carved that commandment himself, something tells us if Clapper & Co. aren’t brought to justice in this world, they’ll surely face it in the next.

Then there’s this sextet of special selections certain to pique the interest of inquiring Conservative minds:

(1). It’s Andy McCarthy’s expert assessment with Biden’s own transgressions making it politically impossible to prosecute Trump for mishandling sensitive information, Special Counsel Jack Smith is shifting the emphasis of his probe to Trump’s alleged obstruction of the investigation.  And here we thought Special Counsels were appointed to take politics out of the process; Silly us!

(2). NRO reports Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman checked himself into Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to receive inpatient care for clinical depression:

“‘While John has experienced depression off and on throughout his life, it only became severe in recent weeks,’ Fetterman’s office said.”

Sorry, but color us skeptical his depression deepened after winning the election.  Fetterman is almost as big a fraud as George Santos.

(3). Further evidence, like the DOJ and FBI, the CDC, indeed, the entire public health bureaucracy, is irrevocably politicized and needs to be dismantled and built again from scratch:

(4). Though the Morning Jolt suggests Republican voters give Nikki Haley a chance, Townhall.com‘s Kurt Schlichter offers a different view, urging us to just say “no” to Nikki.

(5). Does anyone trust Biden’s explanation of the recent “UFO” downings any further than you could throw Hillary?!?  In other words, about as much as we trust the White House doctor’s rosy assessment of Joe’s health, which amazingly enough didn’t include any evaluation of 46*’s cognitive abilities.  Nothing to see here, America…please move along; And scan the sky for UFOs…or balloons.

(6). Reading Dan McLaughlin’s exposé of the many deliberate factual inaccuracies in Hulu’s 1619 Project mini-series, the photo of Nikole Hannah-Jones, author of the fantastical work of fiction, reminded us of the truth of George Santayana’s adage, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it”, as 1619 Project’s creator obviously failed to note the striking similarity between her green velvet dress…

…and that cut from curtains by another, far more famous and equally fictitious figure:

Which brings us, appropriately enough, to The Lighter Side:

Then there’s these from Balls Cotton:

Finally, we’ll call it a week with yet another sordid story straight from the pages of The Crime Blotter, courtesy today of the inevitable product of deliberate Dimocratic divisiveness, as…

Ohio police probe report Black students assaulted, forced White students to say ‘Black Lives Matter

Students could face charges of menacing and assault

A group of Springfield, Ohio, elementary school White students were allegedly threatened and assaulted after a group of Black students told them to say, “Black Lives Matter,” or else, according to reports.

The Springfield Police Department said an officer responded to Kenwood Elementary School just before 10:20 a.m. on Feb. 13 in reference to an incident that happened on Feb. 10. When the officer arrived, he spoke with the school’s principal, Evan Hunsaker, who said an incident occurred on the playground on Feb. 10 during recess. The principal told police that a group of Black students gathered several White students in the playground and forced them to say, “Black Lives Matter,” against their will, the incident report states. The suspects also allegedly recorded the White students who were forced to make the statement, police said.

Hunsaker told police the students who tried to avoid the situation were chased down, dragged or carried to a particular spot on the playground, with one student getting punched in the head by one of the suspects…”

Two thoughts immediately come to mind: (i) Why, if the attack took place on Friday the 10th, did the principal wait until the following Monday to report it?  For all he knew the assailants might have taken things to the next level in the interim; and (ii) Any question had the respective roles and races been reversed, this story would have led every evening newscast in the country?!?  As of now, our search results show only FOX and a handful of local stations found it newsworthy.
