And in today’s Cover Story, Commentary Magazine‘s Peter Wehner details one possible explanation for the increasingly inexplicable behavior of not only The Dear Misleader, but every Progressive on the planet:

Obama Loses Complete Touch with Reality

Last week I wrote that President Obama, having been bested by Vladimir Putin at virtually every turn, has retreated into a world of his own making. “He’s created a fantasy world where disengagement translates into influence and we’re strong and Putin is weak,” I said.

I’m here to report that Mr. Obama’s dissociative disorder has become more, not less, acute. As evidence I would point to an exchange the president had yesterday with ABC’s Jonathan Karl, in which Mr. Obama made this claim:

Russia is a regional power that is threatening some of its immediate neighbors, not out of strength but out of weakness… The fact that Russia felt compelled to go in militarily and laid bare these violations of international law indicates less influence, not more.

This is–and I want to be properly respectful here–crazy. Does the president really and truly believe that Russia has less influence now that it has seized Crimea without a single Russian casualty? Does he believe that in Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus, Poland, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, and Latvia they consider Russia less influential and weaker since the conquest of Crimea?

According to a story from the Washington Post, titled “NATO general warns of further Russian aggression,”

Ukrainian officials have been warning for weeks that Russia is trying to provoke a conflict in eastern Ukraine, a charge that Russia denies. But Breedlove [U.S. Air Force Gen. Philip M. Breedlove, the commander of U.S. and NATO forces in Europe] said Russian ambitions do not stop there.

“There is absolutely sufficient force postured on the eastern border of Ukraine to run to Transnistria if the decision was made to do that, and that is very worrisome,” Breedlove said.

That’s not all. Russia has increased its influence in Syria, Egypt, and Iran. Indeed, Russia’s position in the Middle East hasn’t been this strong since Anwar Sadat expelled the Soviet Union from Egypt in the 1970s. Yet the president continues to make his preposterous claims. In public. Repeatedly.

I’m starting to be convinced this isn’t simply a talking point by a president on the defensive. I think he actually believes what he’s saying. Which means he is losing touch with reality. Which may be the most worrisome thing of all.

Exhibit “A”: the continued denial of what’s obvious to anyone not immediately profiting from the Unaffordable Care Act or shilling for The Obamao:

Sebelius: New ObamaCare extension is not an extension – it’s just an extension

Confused? You should be, particularly as this was Kathleen the Baby Killer this past Monday…

No ifs, ands or buts; no extensions! This was her on Wednesday, only two days later:

What a difference two days make!

We understand Wehner’s point, but here’s the juice: it’s not that Team Tick-Tock and their MSM acolytes believe their own bullsh*t; they’ve screwed the pooch so often and so badly, brazen lying is simply the only option they have left!

That…and the fact…

Louisiana bans use of welfare benefits for tattoos, lingerie, jewelry

Louisiana welfare recipients will be prohibited from spending the federal assistance at lingerie shops, tattoo parlors, nail salons and jewelry stores, under new limits enacted by state social services officials. The Department of Children and Family Services announced the emergency regulations late Thursday. They cover the Family Independence Temporary Assistance Program — commonly known as welfare benefits — and the Kinship Care Subsidy Program.

Both programs pay cash assistance to low-income families for items like food, clothing and housing.

Also barred in the latest restrictions from taking welfare debit cards are video arcades, bail bond companies, cruise ships, psychics, adult-entertainment businesses, nightclubs, bars and any businesses where minors are not allowed. Last year, the social services agency enacted new regulations that banned the spending of welfare money on cigarettes, alcohol and lottery tickets. Those regulations also included prohibitions on the use of a welfare electronic benefit card at liquor stores, gambling sites and strip clubs, as required under a recently-passed federal law.

Violators of the new regulations will stop receiving welfare benefits for a year for a first offense, two years for a second offense and permanently for a third offense, according to the social services department.

Unfortunately, either by oversight or design, the designers of the change left a loophole wide enough to run a Welfare Queen through:

Tracking violations may be difficult, however, because the welfare money can be taken off the electronic benefit card as cash through an ATM. Social services officials said they rely on businesses and the public to report suspected violations.

Since we’re on the subject of those unjustly living off the blood, sweat, toil and tears of others:

Cost of First Lady’s Beijing Hotel Was Deemed ‘Prohibitive’ for Biden

Moochie: champagne tastes on our budget!

The White House has been tight-lipped about the cost of First Lady Michelle Obama’s trip to China, but based on the choice for lodging, it could be considerable. Mrs. Obama and her entourage, which numbers seventy according to the Washington Times (including her two daughters and her mother), booked the Westin Chaoyang Hotel close to the U.S. embassy in Beijing for their first stop. According to USA Today, the presidential suite at the hotel is listed as $8,400 per night.

But when Vice President Joe Biden visited China in December 2013, he and his team stayed at the St. Regis Hotel after the contracting officer responsible for booking rooms determined that the Westin Chaoyang hotel “price was prohibitive when compared with St. Regis.” This is according to the justification and approval documents just released on a government contracting website…

Hey, it’s not like its HER money!

Speaking of questionable spending in times demanding fiscal restraint:

US sending more troops, aircraft to hunt Ugandan warlord Kony

We’re all for killing…”killing”, not “catching”…Kony. But when we supposedly can’t afford even a 300-ship Navy, any more F-22s and are told we haven’t enough assets to confront serious international bad guys…

…isn’t Kony someone the French and Germans should be handling?

Finally, we’ll call it a day with a headline so heinous it might have come from Pyongyang:

Aborted babies incinerated to heat UK hospitals

The remains of more than 15,000 babies were incinerated as ‘clinical waste’ by hospitals in Britain with some used in ‘waste to energy’ plants
