It’s Friday, October 26th, 2018…but before we begin, though the facts aren’t all in, we’re already smelling a rat; hence, this tweet by Scott Adams as forwarded by Pete Groetzinger pretty much sums up our thoughts, at least for the moment:

And though we’ll reserve judgement pending an investigation by federal law enforcement personnel with no connection whatsoever to (i) the Clintons; (ii) The Obamas; (iii) the Russian collusion scam; or, (iv) the Hillary email cover-up, again, for now we’re quite convinced these “bombs” were deliberately designed to distract from the Dimocratic-created disaster currently marching towards our southern border.  Should the facts prove us wrong, we’ll happily stand corrected.

Meanwhile, as this item from the New York Post via Ed Harvey relates, at least one Progressive presidential hopeful attempting to recover from an ill-advised expression of utter disdain for America has tried to use the “bombings” to elevate his own importance:

Device’ sent to Cuomo had nothing to do with bombs sent to political figures

A “device” has been sent to Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s Manhattan office, he announced Wednesday — but later revealed it was just a thumb drive containing information about the Proud Boys…”

Soooo…the “device”…was a thumb drive.

Rumors Cuomo, when told what the “device” actually was, tried to shove it up his kiester immediately adjacent to his head remain unconfirmed.

Now, here’s The Gouge!

First up, courtesy of FOX News, Frank Miniter explains…

Here’s why Hillary Clinton losing her security clearance matters for the rest of us

Hillary Clinton no longer has a security clearance. A letter released from the Department of State to Senator Chuck Grassley, a Republican from Iowa, says she lost her clearance on August 30 at her request. The State Department also withdrew security clearances from five people Clinton had previously requested clearances for, as she had designated them “researchers.” One was Cheryl Mills, who was once the deputy White House counsel for President Bill Clinton who defended him during his 1999 impeachment trial. The names of the others were redacted.

The mainstream media is treating the loss of these clearances as a move by Clinton to avoid a political snub by the Trump administration. Treating this security issue in such a purely political manner misses a growing problem that the media is purposely trying to ignore, as an honest analysis of it doesn’t help their attacks on the current administration.

Hillary Clinton should have lost her clearance back when the government found out she had classified information on her private servers. Actually, they should have done this even before that; she should have lost her security clearance when she left her public position, as secretary of state, for her private quest to get the nation’s top job.

What other employer allows former employees to access their networks? Companies commonly terminate employees email accounts and access before they even tell them they’ve been let go.

But this isn’t some private company. This is our federal government, an unfathomably large bureaucracy that has a lot of our personal information, top-secret data and so much more in its hands.

All of this should focus our attention yet again on how wide-open our government has allowed itself to become

By overlooking and explaining away how Hillary Clinton treated government data, including classified information, and then covering up what Imran Awan allegedly did for years in the House, the mainstream media has done a massive disservice to the state of our democracy. Light needs to be shined on Congress and on anyone who abuses the safeguards of our system so that reforms can take place.

Rest assured light is one thing neither the Clintons nor Congress can ever afford to have shined on their shenanigans.

Next up, the WSJ‘s Dan Henninger comes down where we’ve been since this “caravan” kicked off:

The October Surprise Arrives

The politics of the migrant caravan sound a lot like the Kavanaugh nomination fiasco.

It looks as if the 2018 election’s October Surprise is about to arrive—from Honduras. There they are—all 7,000 or so of them meandering across Mexico, on television 24/7 and the front pages every day. Unavoidably, everyone is forced to shape an opinion about it. Unavoidably, it’s political.

Most media coverage runs on two joined tracks. One, the caravan is a human tragedy. Two, Donald Trump and the Republicans are, needless to say, on the wrong political side of the tragedy.

Does this sound familiar?

That’s right, the October Surprise in its media and political particulars sounds similar to the September Surprise—the Kavanaugh nomination hearings. The Senate Judiciary Democrats dropped the Christine Blasey Ford bombshell late in the process to drive a wedge between Republicans and female voters. It backfired.

Now come the HonduransUnfortunately for the Democrats, the Honduran caravan is the Kavanaugh nomination all over again. (A second one with thousands is forming now in Guatemala.) It’s a massive event that forces voters to think about immigration, an issue Democrats thought had been weaponized this summer against Republicans.

To borrow an old Marx Brothers joke, the question about the caravan for voters is: Who are you going to believe, media or your own eyes? Tens of millions of Americans have been staring for a week at the images of this caravan and asking: What exactly are we expected to do when it arrives in Texas?

Amid whatever is “normal” in our politics anymore, voters have had to process two overwhelming pre-election events: the Kavanaugh nomination and now these migrant caravans heading toward the U.S. With each, the Democrats reduced their political proposition for voters to just one thing: We care. For a lot of people, I suspect, saying only that you care won’t be sufficient reason to earn their vote.

In a related item brought to us by NRO, the great Victor Davis Hanson highlights how…

Midterm Optics Are Bad for Progressives

Hordes of immigrants and screaming protesters won’t win many moderate votes.

For progressives, the looming midterm elections apparently should not hinge on a booming economy, a near-record-low unemployment rate, a strong stock market, and unprecedented energy production. Instead, progressives hope that race and gender questions overshadow pocketbook issues.

The media are fixated on another caravan of foreign nationals flowing toward the United States from Central America. More than 5,000 mostly Honduran migrants say they will cross through Mexico. Then they plan to crash the American border, enter the U.S. illegally, claim refugee status, and demand asylum. Once inside the United States, the newcomers will count on a variety of ways to avoid deportation.

This gambit appears mysteriously timed to arrive right before the U.S. midterms — apparently to create empathy and sway voters toward progressive candidates supporting a more relaxed immigration policyOpen-borders advocates and progressives assume that if border-security officials are forced to detain the intruders and separate parents who broke the law from their children, it will make President Trump and Republican candidates appear cold-hearted and callous.

Earlier this year, a similar border melodrama became sensationalized in the media and almost certainly dropped Trump’s approval ratings. But this time around, the optics may be different…”

We for one believe, if properly handled, the looming confrontation at the border could cement Trump’s reelection in 2020.  Because, when it comes to the Progressive push for open borders, the majority of Americans are with Howard Beale when he observed…

And in the Where Would We Be Without “Experts segment, an article from The New York Times conclusively claims…

Anatomy Does Not Determine Gender, Experts Say

Defining gender as a condition determined strictly by a person’s genitals is based on a notion that doctors and scientists abandoned long ago as oversimplified and often medically meaningless.

Researchers who have studied gender issues and provided health care to people who do not fit the typical M/F pigeonholes said that the Trump administration’s latest plan to define gender goes beyond the limits of scientific knowledge. (You know, the “latest plan”…to radically define gender by the presence of a penis or vagina!)

“The idea that a person’s sex is determined by their anatomy at birth is not true, and we’ve known that it’s not true for decades,” said Dr. Joshua D. Safer, an endocrinologist and executive director of the Center for Transgender Medicine and Surgery at Mount Sinai Health System in New York. He is also president of the United States Professional Association of Transgender Health.

But exactly what does determine gender identity — a person’s powerful, core knowledge of who they are — is not so clear…”

Oh no, it’s clear alright…and it starts and ends with the plumbing…

which comes as original equipment!  Anything else is mental illness mixed with moral depravity.

And despite the claims of Dr. Safer, whose livelihood and reputation rest on the same type of junk science as the climate scammers, at least one world-renowned “expert” on transgenderism could hardly be described as in his camp, as recorded by Madeleine Kearns writing at NRO:

Dr. Zucker Defied Trans Orthodoxy. Now He’s Vindicated.

“…Dr. Zucker, editor-in-chief of the journal Archives of Sexual Behavior, helped shape the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual’s current definition of “gender dysphoria.” Following complaints local activists made to CAMH in 2014, he was investigated by two independent assessors with little experience in childhood gender issues. After his removal in December 2015, though, more than 500 clinicians and researchers within the field signed an open letter to CAMH’s board of trustees, expressing “dismay” at Dr. Zucker’s dismissal and defending his integrity and his “outstanding” contribution to the field.

Though he will sometimes recommend social and medical transition for his patients, Dr. Zucker is guided by the general principle that congruence between a patient’s gender identity and birth sex is the ideal outcome. This approach is informed by decades of case-by-case clinical practice and a small but substantial body of research — in an uncertain and under-researched area — suggesting that over two-thirds of children with gender dysphoria will realign with their birth sex by the end of adolescence if they have not been exposed to transition-based treatments.

Prior to his ousting, however, political pressure was mounting. One petition to CAMH on Change.org, with 2,203 signers, sought to “eliminate Dr. Kenneth Zucker.” This complaint called his clinical practices “highly outdated and demoralizing” and further claimed, without any substantiation whatsoever, that he is an “alleged sex abuser.”…”

Boys and girls, can you say “Brett Kavanaugh”?  We KNEW you could!

Moving on, John Stossel details a disaster which is, quite literally, waiting to happen:

Two quick thoughts come to mind: first, Daniel DiSalvo is somewhat disingenuous in equating Republican tax cuts with Dimocrat infrastructure spending.  Second, one must note the vast majority of these unaffordable public pensions were “promised” by Progressives!

Which brings us to The Lighter Side:

Then there’s the definition of a new term from Balls Cotton…

…the new Redskin’s helmet from Jimmy Crilley…

…and a rather pointed cartoon on the parlous state of the NFL from our sister-in-law Amy:

And let’s not forget this rather ill-advised ad placement:

Finally, we’ll call it a week with another titillating tale torn from the pages of The Crime Blotter, courtesy today of a car thief whose chutzpah certainly outweighed her common sense:

Handcuffed woman captured stealing cruiser in front of officers

The announcer was right: Angie Frost will be a guest of the State of Oklahoma for the next three years.

And if this story sounds familiar, it should, because Frost wasn’t the first femme fatale to give the cops the slip, handcuffs notwithstanding:

As Dr. Peter Venkman would say…
