It’s Wednesday, May 1st, 2019…but before we begin, here’s Beto comparing the conditions of criminal illegal aliens working in the U.S. to those of antebellum slaves:

Yeah, they’re exactly the same, except: American slaves came here involuntarily after being sold into bondage by their fellow Africans, weren’t paid for their labor (let alone received it tax-free under the table), had no access to free healthcare, education or entitlements and were whipped and beaten at the whim of their overseer or master.

The similarities are striking!  Then again, given the current state of the 2020 Dimocratic field, Beto should for once be thankful Buttiegeg’s in front, rather than behind him!  😉

California professor is slammed for calling fetus ‘legitimate parasite’ during lecture on cancer

A medical school lecture comparing the “parallels between fetuses and cancers” is coming under fire from the University of California as a dehumanizing lesson to students.

But the professor insists it wasn’t the point of the slide.

The lecture, reportedly part of the UC San Diego School of Medicine course, Evolution of Human Disease, “explores the major epidemiological transitions from ape-like ancestors to foraging tribes, farmers and pastoralists, to the global metropolitan primate we now are. We focus on how diseases have shaped humans and how humans have shaped disease over time.”

In the screengrab, the slide refers to a preborn child as a “legitimate parasite” that “invades” its mother and “manipulates” her immunity.

…After the slide went viral, the professor responded in an email to his class. “Most of you probably realize that my point was to show that mammals are especially prone to invasive cancers because mammals evolved invasive placentation,” he wroteMy point was not to indoctrinate you with the notion that fetuses are cancers, as insinuated in the article.”

Lila Rose, the founder and president of Live Action, slammed California’s public university system and called out the professor for his statement. “Amid scrutiny, UC San Diego professor says he didn’t intend to say ‘fetuses and cancers,'” Rose wrote. “How about backtracking the term “parasite”? These are medically inaccurate & offensive terms, ones that abortion advocates have used for dozens of years to dehumanize children.”

The university said the slide said the point of the slide is to show “mammals are especially prone to invasive cancers, in part because mammals evolved the ability to host fetuses and placentas.” “The slide presents common, widely accepted scientific concepts and in no way represents a political statement,” the university said in a statement…”

And you know, the university is right: this wasn’t a political statement.  Rather it was a moral pronouncement accurately reflecting The Left’s utter disregard for the sanctity of human life.

Just in case anyone was…confused.

Now, here’s The Gouge!

First up, we trust you’ll join us in wishing good riddance to bad rubbish:

Rod Rosenstein Officially Resigns From the Department of Justice

Pardon us if we don’t bid this disease-ridden rodent fare-thee-well as he scurries off into some dark alley on K Street, having already inflicted upon the body politic all the harm he could.

Inquiring minds will remember, like so many other of the wounds suffered by The Donald, Rodentstein’s were self-inflicted.

In a related item, if the facts of this story from the WSJ are true, like his good friend Jim Comey, Bob Mueller has just revealed himself as the partisan deep state swamp rat we’ve always held him to be:

Mueller Objected to Barr’s Summary of Report

Special counsel said attorney general ‘did not fully capture the context, nature and substance’ of findings on Trump and Russia

“…Mr. Mueller decided not to render a judgment on whether Mr. Trump’s conduct constituted obstruction of justice, saying he was guided in part by Justice Department policy that a sitting president cannot be indicted, but made clear he was not exonerating the president. Mr. Barr subsequently determined that the evidence Mr. Mueller’s investigation developed was insufficient to establish a crime of obstruction of justice…”

Sorry, but after 2 years, some 400 pages and well over $30 million, was it too much to expect the special counsel would offer an unambiguous report with conclusions not subject to misinterpretation?!?

Here’s the juice: this was all part and parcel to “the plan”: they couldn’t prove their facts, so now they’re seeking to condemn by innuendo.  Andy McCarthy called the play some three weeks back, as he observed, when it came to his conclusions, Mueller completely dropped the ballNow we know his fumble was deliberate.

Next, courtesy of NRO, we present the latest ruminations of NeverTrumper George Will, as with a straight face he seriously suggests…

Biden Is Well-Positioned to Offer Chaos-Weary Voters a Rest

If most Americans are tired and embarrassed with the direction of the country more than they’re angry, the former vice president could benefit.

Three days before Joe Biden dove back into the deep end of the political pool, a rival, Senator Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.), said the terrorist who bombed the 2013 Boston Marathon, and everyone else in America’s prisons, should be allowed to vote, lest the “chipping away” of voting rights leave America “running down a slippery slope.” Such running — to be fair to the faux independent (he caucuses with Senate Democrats; he seeks the Democratic presidential nomination) — does sound dangerous.

Another Biden rival, California senator Kamala Harris, utilized the sort of verbal fudge that many Democratic presidential candidates resort to when they are terrified that they might be neglecting to stroke some obscure erogenous zone on the party’s progressive base. She initially said Sanders’s idea should be part of a “conversation,” which is basically what she (and Massachusetts senator Elizabeth Warren) said about “reparations” for slavery.

One or more of Biden’s rivals have endorsed, or at least deemed conversation-worthy, many ideas not uppermost in most voters’ minds: socialism, the Green New Deal, packing the Supreme Court, abolishing ICE and the Electoral College, free college, votes for 16-year-olds, “Medicare for All” (and private health insurance for no one), etc. Biden’s campaign slogan should be: “How about a president who doesn’t make the current one look less loony than he is?”

The large progressive component of the Democratic nominating electorate, comfortable in its intellectual silo, seems to have convinced itself of this: Because Donald Trump constantly makes sensible people wince, any Democratic nominee, even one from progressivism’s wilder shores, can win, so no nominee should be (in President John Quincy Adams’s 1825 words) “palsied by the will of our constituents.” (Adams lost the 1828 election to the populist Andrew Jackson, whose portrait adorns the current populist president’s Oval Office.)

..Biden, whose smile is Jack Nicholson’s without the naughtiness, is not angry. His sporadic attempts at seeming so are transparently, and engagingly, synthetic. Neither, however, are most Americans angry. Rather, they are embarrassed and exhausted. Biden has a talent for embarrassing himself, but not the nation, and he probably might seem to weary voters to be something devoutly desired: restful.

Yeah, restful: sorta like the sleep induced by an overdose of barbiturates.  And how, pray tell, does an American President embarrass himself without embarrassing the nation?!?

George Will is as out of touch with the tens of millions of American who, like us, pulled the handle for The Donald primarily because we’d cast a vote for a Clinton when…

Not to mention, as this video shows, Joe is either demented, brain-damaged or drunk:

Let the national embarrassment begin!

Battling the Democrats’ big lie about Donald Trump *

* Which big lie?!?

No doubt you’ve heard a Democrat or two declare that President Trump is a “threat to our democracy.” Joe Biden used his campaign launch to up the ante, saying that the 2020 election is a “battle for the soul” of America and warning that if Trump gets a second term, “he will forever and fundamentally alter the character of this nation.”

Ho hum. The suggestion that the president is the personification of evil and is destroying all that makes America exceptional has become so routine that it’s easy to ignore it. In fact, it’s an extraordinary charge, even for our nasty, turbulent times.

More remarkable, the charge and related talking points continue to thrive on the left despite the lack of facts to support them. Indeed, special counsel Robert Mueller shredded the heart of the wildest accusations — that Trump conspired with Russia to steal the 2016 election.

So the collusion charge was a Big Lie, but it’s a lie that won’t die. A trip down memory lane shows how we got to this perilous place…”

Since we’re on the subject of “all sizzle, no substance”, here’s one more completely incomplete report from FOX News:

Navy reviewing procedures after female recruit, 18, dies during boot camp

“The U.S. Navy is reviewing its training and safety procedures after an 18-year-old recruit from Alabama died during boot camp last week. Kelsey Nobles, of Mobile, collapsed during training at the Navy Recruit Training Center in Great Lakes, Ill., on Tuesday, spokesman Lt. Joseph W. Pfaff said.

Nobles’ father, Harold, told WKRG-TV that doctors said the woman went into cardiac arrest after a fitness test, and “couldn’t be revived.”

The recruit’s death was the second at the Navy training center in just over eight weeks. On Feb. 22, Seaman Recruit Kierra Evans, 20, collapsed following the 1.5-mile run portion of the Navy’s Physical Fitness Assessment. She was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead several hours later, according to Military.com.

“For me, I’m just like, ‘What’s wrong?’ These young people are so excited about serving their country and going into the military. Are they doing enough to check them? Does physical testing need to be more in-depth?” Harold Nobles told the news station.

“Recruit Training Command reviewed the training, safety, medical processes, and overall procedures regarding the implementation of the Physical Fitness Assessment and found no discrepancies in its execution,” Pfaff told the outlet…”

First and foremost, to the greatest extent possible having never lost a child, we grieve with Mr. Nobles.

That being said, no physical screening is perfect.  During our four years at Navy, at least one Midshipman a year was lost to some undiagnosed medical condition; and we were subjected not only to pre-admission physicals, but post-admission testing as well.  And it’s not like the Navy hasn’t been running boot camps for generations.

What we find rather curious is the article’s focus on recent female fatalities, and only one other at that.  No attempt whatsoever to establish any statistical trend or recurring history, let alone a recounting of similar deaths among male recruits.

And in the greatest leap of misplaced faith since Nancy Pelosi’s…

Witness in Favor of ‘Medicare for All’ Admits at Hearing They’re ‘Shooting in the Dark

By the way, did you notice how cool I look in this photo?!?

“The House Rules Committee held its first hearing about the Democrats’ Medicare for All bill, introduced by Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) in the House and by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), for a second time, in the Senate. The “revamped” version of the bill boasts “comprehensive” health care coverage, including primary care, dental, vision, and other services, as well as no deductibles, no co-pays, etc. The Democratic led-committee was thrilled to share the news.

It sounds pretty good, until you see the price tag or consider the lower quality of care. Representatives from the Mercatus Center and the Galen Institute were there to deliver the bad news.

the folks on the anti-Medicare-for-All side were obligated to tell the panel just how much the Democrats’ effort would cost. Dr. Charles Blahous of the Mercatus Center reported that the new net cost will be between $32.6 trillion and $38.8 trillion in the first 10 years, adding that the first number is “a very low estimate.” By 2022, the program would consume 11 to 13 percent of GDP.

Galen Institute President Grace-Marie Turner added in her remarks that Medicare for All will also come with lower quality of care, such as what’s been reported in England. Americans could expect rations, longer wait times, etc., she warned.

Another scary factor to consider is that, since the U.S. has never implemented something like this before, we don’t know what we’re getting into. (WRONG!!!) Even Dr. Dean Baker, from the Center for Economic and Policy Research, who was there to testify in favor of Jayapal’s measure, admitted that we would be “shooting in the dark.” But it would be worth itto see what happens when we make health care more available.”

He argued that the legislation would come with administrative savings. With certain adjustments, we could get the tab down to $25 trillion, he suggested…”

Sorry, but with all due respect to Ms. O’Brien, the U.S. HAS implemented this type of program before, and with disastrous

…results.

Which brings us, inappropriately enough, to The Lighter Side:

Finally, we’ll call it a wrap with yet another sordid story straight from The Crime Blotter, and this just in from Charmless City:

One person is dead and six are injured in a shooting near a Baltimore church

The shooting broke out in Baltimore at about 5.30pm on Sunday

One killed, seven injured; that’s the same number slain and four more than were wounded by the Poway synagogue shooter.  But don’t hold your breath waiting for the MSM to give this incident the same breathless coverage afforded the Poway shooting spree, as it was Black-on-Black crime; which means repetitive reporting might lead someone somewhere to focus on the real root of the problem: purposefully counterproductive Progressive policies.

More importantly, as Marta Mossburg recently recorded at NRO, this shooting was just another Sunday in Baltimore:

“…Crime is so pervasive today that Johns Hopkins University, the city’s largest private-sector employer, won approval this year from the state legislature to create its own armed police force to protect students, faculty, and its medical campus. The rate of violent crime has been terrible for years and last year Baltimore topped the FBI’s homicide list at a time when violent crime has been decreasing nationally. Security company ADT just ranked Baltimore’s residents the “most robbed” in the United States. This, four years after former mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, a Democrat like every Baltimore mayor since 1967, told residents they needed to give looters “space” to “destroy” during riots following the death of Freddie Gray, a black man who died in police custody in 2015, and earlier told residents who complained about spiking crime during her tenure that they were “part of the problem.” (She decided not to run for a second term, by the way.)

No wonder so many people are voting with their feet and leaving. Last year’s census figures showed that, of the 30 largest cities in the United States, only Baltimore and Detroit lost population. Baltimore had shrunk to a population not seen for 100 years. This year’s census figures show another population decline of 1.2 percent to just over 600,000 residents and no signs of stopping.

Lest we appear focused on seeking scapegoats from amongst the city’s darker denizens as the source of the problem, Martin O’Malley, who turned 8 years of singularly uninspired leadership as Baltimore’s mayor into two terms as Maryland’s budget-busting governor…along with a brief and forgettable 15 minutes of fame on the national stage…was as white and lacking in rhythm as a honky could be.

Inquiring minds might wonder, what was Marty’s claim to fame…besides rivaling Joe Biden, John Kerry and AOC for the honorific “Dumbest Dimocrat EVER“?  Answer: he campaigned for mayor on promises to improve student performance and curtail violent crime, both of which he accomplished…by lowering the passing grade on public school tests from 60 to 50, and reclassifying a number of violent crimes as non-violent.

If, as Einstein is purported to have proffered, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results, the citizens of Baltimore are, quite literally, utterly out of their minds!!!

Which is why we frequent the Charmless City only six times a year: to feed and minister to the homeless.

On a personal note, due to our commitment to entertain Chris Wilson, one of our oldest, bestest buddies and father of Jack Wilson, Naval Academy Class of 2014 and Naval Aviator extraordinaire, we shan’t be publishing again before next Monday.

So until then…
