It’s Monday, July 27th, 2020…but before we begin, since Major League Baseball is now…

Yankees and Nationals kneel before the national anthem

…indiscernible from the National Football League…

until the PGA and NHL start taking a knee, it’s hockey and golf for us.  FYI, we haven’t watched the NBA since defense in the league became as extinct as an all-White starting five.  Okay, that was a joke: as extinct as the dodo bird.

But think about it: if racial representation is going to be reflective of actual America, whether on corporate boards, college campuses or anywhere else in the country, why not professional sports.  Why not more White, Hispanic and Asian players in the NBA…the NFL…or Asians in MLB?!?  Why not make ethnic/racial quotas a requirement of Olympic participation.  Hells bells, why not more of the blind or mentally-challenged?!?  Where the HECK does it END?!?

Here’s the juice: the only way these overpaid, anti-American a*swipes profit is if YOU watch their games on television, go to their games at their stadiums, pay the least amount of attention to them online.

You stop watchingyou stop attendingyou stop talkingthey wither on the vine.

Now, here’s The Gouge!

It’s been a VERY long weekend.  Saturday night, our youngest son Travis discovered a leak in the ceiling of our basement, which on top of the damage from our backed-up septic system, was simply icing on our sh*t cake.  Then, after repairing the source of the leak late Sunday, we discovered our tankless hot water heater decided to stop working.  All of which is the long-way-around-the-barn method of telling you this is going to be a very abbreviated edition of The Gouge!  (We’re not even checking for misspellings or other errors; we just want to get in bed!!!)

So now, dispensing with anything but headlines, we offer the following:

Why the CDC Is Stressing the Importance of Schools Reopening This Fall

“COVID has created another new and intense debate: should schools reopen in the fall? If you watch CNN, you’d think to send kids back to school was akin to the death march to Bataan. It’s not. In fact, the socioeconomic impact of a whole generation of kids not learning for a year is probably more devastating than anything COVID could dish out. Accountability standards are spotty with this online learning protocol school boards are adopting. In some locations, like Nashville, around 30 percent of the 86,000-student body doesn’t have a home computer. In New York City, there are horror stories about how we really cannot gauge if students there learned…anything.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released a pretty thorough post about why it’s key for kids to return to school. First and foremost, kids don’t appear to be heavily impacted by this virus. Transmission among kids is also low. And yes, that New York Times piece about schools being possible areas of spread from South Korea was flawed as hell. It’s par for the course, given another panic piece about churches being a mecca source for transmission. The CDC was quite clear about the risks for kids at school. It’s low…”

As is the danger to teachers, as Jim Freeman detailed in our Friday edition.  More importantly, aren’t we supposed to heed the advice of the experts?  Seems like only when their advice might prove disadvantageous to the reelection of The Donald.

MOST importantly, consider our current self-inflicted crisis was birthed by George W. Bush’s backing of a lockdown plan with no exit strategy conceived by two government doctors with no epidemiological or pandemic expertise aided and abetted by a complex-systems analyst at the Sandia National Laboratories helping his 14-year-old daughter with her high school science project, absent the assent or agreement of any medical expert, largely owing to its lack of any cogent exit strategy, i.e., how you UNlock!  Sorta like Dubya’s exit strategy from either Afghanistan or Iraq!!!

And if anyone is interested in what surrender to The Mob looks like…

Mayor Lori Lightfoot has Christopher Columbus statues removed from Chicago parks overnight

Though, unlike Lori Lightfoot, other Dimocratic mayors and the French, there are some who refuse to surrender:

Wall Street Journal vows not to ‘wilt under cancel culture pressure’ or yield to ‘conformity and intolerance’ after 280 staffers signed a letter protesting ‘misinformation’ in the paper’s conservative opinion pieces

Here’s an idea: if you find the atmosphere at the Journal threatening and/or intolerable, quit, and go find work at another publication.  Oh, they’re laying staff off rather than hiring additional personnel?!?  Suddenly, the Journal doesn’t feel as threatening.

Meanwhile, the news isn’t all bad, as Guy Benson notes as Townhall.com:

After Threatened Lawsuit, Charity Boss Who Criticized BLM is Reinstated, Cancel Mob Resigns

Which brings us to The Lighter Side:

Then there’s this series from Ed Hickey…

…these from Balls Cotton…

…four from James Nichols…

…and last, but certainly not least, two from Fielding Cocke:

Finally, we’ll call it a wrap where we began, with The Sports Section, courtesy today of Townhall.com‘s Bronson Stocking and the only professional sports league whose attendance has been utterly unaffected by the Wuhan virus:

WNBA Players Walk Off Basketball Court When National Anthem Starts Playing

Sooo…if there are no fans in attendance…and really never have been even prior to the Wuhan restrictions…why play the national anthem at all?!?

Did anyone other than the woke ESPN propagandist realize WNBA players have been using their positions to speak out against social injustice since the league’s been in existence?  More importantly, can anyone NAME a single WNBA player?  Has anyone SEEN a single WNBA game?!?

No wonder, despite eight years of Obama-Biden, we haven’t made any significant progress “moving social justice forward”!

Because The Left has no interest in moving this mythical football forward!!!
