It’s Monday, November 2nd, 2020…but before we begin, here’s another headline from FOX News we find nearly as grating as…

Rare Halloween blue moon thrills skywatchers

The last Halloween blue moon was in 2001

“…Skygazers, however, should not expect the Halloween blue moon to be, well…blue. “Most Blue Moons look pale gray and white, indistinguishable from any other Moon you’ve ever seen,” NASA explains…”

Seriously, we’re finding it hard to believe this Halloween blue moon “thrilled” anyone, be they skywatchers, skygazers or, for that matter…

…Skywalkers.  Rather we’re of the opinion an event indistinguishable from any other full moon, and which happens every two to three years, really didn’t “thrill” a single soul

…which just so happens to be the same number of the supposed “thrilled” interviewed for the article.

Unfortunately, sensationalism sells: Thus do common occurrences “thrill”, storms become “super typhoons“, models morph into “supermodels”, any actor or actress who ever appeared on television is cited as a “star”.  Oh, and everybody gets a trophy!

And where the heck would we be without NASA?!?  We certainly know where the crews of Columbia and Challenger would be: alive and well, with Christa McAuliffe likely still teaching school in New Hampshire.

Sorry, such overhyped headlines are a pet peeve, and we had to vent.

Now, here’s The Gouge!

First up, NRO‘s Jack Fowler explains the reasons behind his position it’s..

Biden, Never

On Election Day, this #NeverBiden voter will vote.

In my 34th year of “Never Biden,” exhausted by the political commentariat’s Trump myopia, I offer some reasons, selective, that explain a complete, personal disdain for the idea of a President Biden. These reasons for opposing this vanguard of Warren/Sanders/Harris socialism, for objecting to this doddering culmination of a half-century of hackery and blarney, elicit varying degrees of disqualification and rage-inducement. The handful of reasons (there are many more) are disqualifying. They are presented without the obsession of “But Trump…” rhetoric — look elsewhere (the places are plenty) if that is what floats your boat. This is done with an understanding, maybe delusional but likely not, that #NeverBiden is a status that applies to many Americans…”

What follows is too lengthy to cover in one column, but well worth your time to read before heading to the polls…and passing on to everyone you know before they do.

The author concludes with this sage observation:

God, Bismarck is alleged to have said, protects fools, drunks, and the United States of America. On Election Day, this #NeverBiden voter will vote, and will pray the Almighty protects the latter. We sure as h*** won’t survive the former.

Absent the direct intercession of the Almighty Himself, we agree.  Which is why we’ll continue to pray even if the election doesn’t go the way we perceive to be…”right’!

But if you don’t believe either Jack Fowler or us, perhaps you’ll trust the great Thomas Sowell.

Glenn Greenwald On His Resignation From The Intercept

The Pulitzer winner founded the Intercept to challenge official narratives and protect editorial freedom. When editors abandoned those principles, spiking a controversial story, he was forced to quit

Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Glenn Greenwald quit his job this morning. In a bizarre, ironic, and disturbing commentary on trends in modern media, the celebrated reporter was forced to resign after writing a story criticizing both the Biden campaign and intelligence community — only to have it spiked by the editors of The Intercept, the news outlet he co-founded six years ago with the aim of preventing pretty much this exact situation.

“The irony,” Greenwald says, “is that a media outlet I co-founded, and which was built on my name and my accomplishments, with the purpose of guaranteeing editorial independence, is now censoring me in the most egregious way — about the leading presidential candidate, a week before the election.”

Greenwald becomes the latest high-profile journalist to leave a well-known legacy media organization to join Substack. You’ll be able to read the piece rebuffed by The Intercept at his new site here.

In a nutshell, the fatal sequence of events went as follows…”:

Liberals: they only hurt the ones they love…particularly when they stray from the Socialist reservation.

In a related item, as Keith Koffler noted of the following exchange, if the answer to the question is “no”, wouldn’t it be simpler to just say “no”?

Which, of course, means the answer is “yes“!

Speaking of the truth-challenged, as FOX News reports…

Virginia bans no-knock warrants as Gov. Northam signs sweeping police reform legislation

“…Besides banning no-knock warrants, it creates a statewide minimum training for law enforcement officers on racism, biased profiling and de-escalation techniques.

The law also seeks to reduce the militarization of police by prohibiting law enforcement from obtaining or using specified equipment, including grenades, weaponized aircraft and high-caliber firearms. Northam amended the house bill to clarify that law enforcement agencies can seek a waiver to use restricted equipment for search-and-rescue missions.

“Too many families, in Virginia and across our nation, live in fear of being hurt or killed by police,” Northam said in a statement…”

So many thoughts and questions, so little time; but here are the first three which came to mind:

(1). Will the good governor be featured as on object lesson…

…during the racism training?

(2). Why on earth would Virginia law enforcement require a waiver to utilize “grenades, weaponized aircraft and high-caliber firearms” for search-and-rescue missions?  Where are these SAR missions to be conducted: in Afghanistan?!?

(3). For law-abiding citizens of any color, actually being hurt or killed by the police is statistically about as realistic as the chances of being haunted by a ghost or bitten by a werewolf.  After all, a sizable sampling of our fellow citizens purportedly believe Elvis lives and the moon landings were faked; nonetheless, their belief doesn’t make such so.  More importantly, Northam’s rank hypocrisy to the contrary notwithstanding, unreasoned, groundless fears should never form the basis of public policy.

Since we’re on the subject of unreasoned, groundless fears making for terrible public policy, writing at Best of the WebJim Freeman details why…

Lockdowns Are Much More Expensive Than Advertised

The non-cure is far worse than the disease.

U.S. consumers beat expectations again last month, as today’s Commerce Department report shows encouraging gains in income and expenditures. The Journal’s Amara Omeokwe notes: “U.S. households boosted spending for a fifth straight month, helping the economy dig further out from the deep hole created by the pandemic.” But can we rely on politicians not to dig another one?

This column was hoping that after the political panic of the shutdown spring, government officials had learned that setting fire to the economy doesn’t correlate with medical success. But despite falling fatality rates lately, rising numbers of cases are causing some to consider once again administering the non-cure even if it’s worse than the disease.

Perhaps today’s report on consumer spending and income will help them understand that revivalists are faring much better than lockdowners

As for the costs of the lockdowns, as painful as they’ve been we’ve hardly begun to pay the bill. And it’s possible we’ll be paying forever…”

Then again…

…what’s new?!?

In a related item, Sweden, which never adopted a lockdown strategy originally conceived as a 14-year-old’s high school science project, has yet to experience anything in the way of a significant second Wuhan wave.  Which is rather ironic considering the Scandinavian state has heretofore been held up as America’s model for almost every other of its public policies.

Which brings us to The Lighter Side:

Then there’s this string from G. Trevor…

…along with one from George Lawlor…

…another from James Nichols…

…a number more from Balls Cotton…

…and last, but certainly not least, this decision matrix from former carrier veteran Ed Hickey:

Now, for the sake of your children, your grandchildren, the Constitution and the Founders’ Republic, get out there tomorrow and pull the lever for The Donald.

You don’t have to like him; as we’ve said many times, we don’t like him.  After all, we’ve no doubt whatsoever…in addition to English being a second language to a man with a very limited vocabulary in whatever is his birth tongue…Trump, like Otter…

Still, if you need more reasons to vote for Trump: here are three

And here’s the juice: Heaven forbid anything happen to John Roberts in the next four years, but a second term will enable Trump to erase the scar from yet another wound the Bush family inflicted upon the nation.

And THAT, dear ones, will be well worth another four years of his tweets.

Magoo

P.S. Though we love the man, Clarence Thomas isn’t getting any younger.  As Darth Bader could attest, were she not preoccupied screaming in agony…

…at the sound of Kamala’s cackle!
