It’s Wednesday, July 16th, 2014…but before we begin, we offer Progressives suggesting screening the faith of SCOTUS justices a brief primer on the Constitution of the United States of America, courtesy of the WSJ and Seth Lipsky writing in the July 12th edition of the New York Post:

No religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.”

No . . . ever . . . any.” It’s not only the most emphatic statement in the entire Constitution but probably in all of American law. . . . [Yet] an advertisement attacking the religion of the five Catholic justices of the Supreme Court . . . in the wake of the Hobby Lobby decision . . . actually contained the phrase “Roman Catholic majority.” It named Chief Justice John Roberts and Justices Antonin Scalia, Anthony Kennedy, Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito. . . .

The reason we don’t need to worry about the religion of our governmental officers is because of the constitutional oath. The oath—to support the Constitution—is required of every officer, legislator and judge of our national, state and local governments. That’s not enough for the Democratic Party intelligentsia. It has been railing about Hobby Lobby for months. Joy Reid on MSNBC complained about the “six Catholic justices,” adding: “The question is do you trust this court to make those decisions?”

The American people are not dumb. They are increasingly seeing this kind of thing for what it is, a bigotry all its own.

Now, here’s The Gouge!

First up, in the Maxwell Smart Memorial segment…

Would you believe

…yet another computer hard drive belonging to a high-ranking federal bureaucrat under investigation for criminal activity has crashed and was trashed?!?  James Taranto has the details:

‘You Are My Enemy’

obama_pc_computer_10-13-13-3

Meet the federal government’s go-to IT specialist; he’s our enemy all right!

In 2012, a woman named April Sands, alias @ReignOfApril, tweeted a series of truculent Democratic campaign messages (the #p2 hashtag stands for “Progressives 2.0.”):

“Our #POTUS’s birthday is August 4. He’ll be 51. I’m donating at least $51 to give him the best birthday present ever: a second term. #p2”

“Donate to @clairecmc [Sen. Claire McCaskill] today. RT @HuffPostPol BREAKING: Todd Akin is not dropping out of his Senate race, he tells Huckabee. #MOSen’ #p2”

“Romney is toast. But POTUS can’t do it all on his own. Don’t forget Congressional races. We need a Democratic sweep. Stay focused. #p2”

“I just don’t understand how anyone but straight white men can vote Republican. What kind of delusional rhetorical [sic] does one use? #p2”

“Dear every single Republican ever, When will U learn that Barack Hussein Obama is simply smarter than U? Signed, #Obama2012 #p2”

“If you’re still calling yourself a Republican after the #WarOnWomen, their stated RNC platform, & Birtherism, you are my enemy. Done. #p2”

Sands would be just another Obamabot, but for one thing: She worked as a lawyer for the Federal Election Commission, the agency that enforces laws restricting campaign speech and financing. Shockingly, she posted all these tweets during work hours. (“Shockingly”?!?)

As Reps. Darrell Issa and Jim Jordan note in a letter to FEC Chairman Lee Goodman, Sands no longer works for the FEC. After an investigation by the Office of Special Counsel and the FEC’s Office of Inspector General, Sands acknowledged having violated the Hatch Act, which prohibits federal employees from engaging in “pernicious political activities.”

According to the letter, the FEC OIG wanted to pursue criminal charges but was unable to do so: “The FEC recycled Ms. Sands’ hard drive before the OIG was able to seize it, and therefore the OIG was unable to show that Ms. Sands’ solicitations and political activity were done from an FEC computer. The U.S. Attorney’s office for the District of Columbia thereafter declined criminal prosecution.”

Sound familiar? There’s more: It turns out that Sands’s former boss at the FEC is none other than Lois Lerner, whose hard drive mysteriously “crashed” just after Congress started looking into corruption at Lerner’s next agency, the Internal Revenue Service. Each new revelation gives reason to doubt that Barack Obama’s re-election was honestly won.

Like they say, old tricks are the best tricks!  No need for an independent investigation here!

Marking as this does the third occasion on which the hard drive utilized by a senior Obama operative under investigation for…legal improprieties…has been rendered, mysteriously and conveniently, inoperative and inaccessible, the Morning Examiner‘s Mark Tapscott wonders…

Is the IRS scandal the ultimate test of the Constitution’s checks and balances?

collage1

“Two federal judges acting within 24 hours of each other last Thursday and Friday served notice on the IRS that it’s time to pay up.

In doing so, U.S. District Court Judges Emmet G.Sullivan and Reggie Walton have set up what may prove to be the ultimate test of the Constitution’s checks and balances system. Sullivan and Walton both serve on the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Both are well-known as no-nonsense judges who are not to be trifled with.

…The credibility of Congress and the courts thus now depends upon their successfully exposing the truth about the IRS scandal and punishing those responsible. If they fail, the executive branch will be effectively liberated from constitutional restraint. Thus, the IRS scandal has now become the ultimate test of the Founders’ faith in checks and balances as a bulwark against tyranny

To borrow a phrase from the late Isaac Hayes…

In a sentiment likely resulting from fall-out related to the public’s rapidly growing fatigue almost everything Obama, Victor Davis Hanson suggests America may be…

All Clintoned Out

“Barack Obama did not blow apart Hillary Clinton’s huge lead during the 2008 Democratic primaries just because he was a landmark African-American candidate, new to the scene, and a skilled campaigner. Even Democrats were all Clintoned out.

By such weariness, I don’t suggest that either of the Clintons is unpopular…The problem instead is Hillary Clinton herself. She is not a very good speaker, and is prone to shrill outbursts and occasional chortling. She has a bad habit of committing serial gaffes (e.g., speaking too candidly), and what she says on Monday is often contradicted by her rantings on Tuesday. She seems cheap and obsessed with raking in free stuff…

518172147_hillary_clinton_lie_answer_1_xlarge

…None of these hurdles — or questions about both Hillary’s and Bill’s age and health —  is insurmountable for a contortionist like Ms. Clinton…Current polls suggest that she will pull it off. (In the way the early polls had assured that she would in 2008?) What then is likely?

Who knows, although we can be certain of one fact: If the Republican candidate campaigns according to the Marquess of Queensberry rules in the fashion of John McCain or Mitt Romney and politely deflects each hour the insinuation that as a rich, old white guy de facto he is culpable for some –ism or -ology, Hillary will be elected.

But if such charges are either inapplicable to the Republican candidate or are answered in slash-and-burn Lee Atwater style — who was so despised by establishment Republican political operatives — then nothing is certain.”

Our advice to the GOP: between now and November, focus on, as contributor Bill Meisen suggests, these

Immigration…Border security…Executive orders……Healthcare…Economic growth…IRS…VA…Iran Nukes…NSA…Mid-east peace talks…Syria…Iraq…Russian Reset…China…Afghanistan…Benghazi…Fast and Furious…Jobs…Terrorist/Bergdahl swap…Perception of U.S. around the world…Germany booting out the CIA…Gas Prices…Energy policy in general…Green energy subsidy failures…Global Warming (by the way it will be 50 degrees during the all-star game tonight)…Justice Department…Size, scope and reach of government…Taxes…Government Transparency…Deficit/government spending…Total US Debt…Minority and youth unemployment rate…Government retaliation against whistleblowers… Justice department going after the press…50% of Americans on the government dole…Income equality gap…etc., etc., etc!

Lawsuits and Impeachment

gop_tnt

“Whenever Democrats are in real trouble politically, the Republicans seem to come up with something new that distracts the public’s attention from the Democrats’ problems. Who says Republicans are not compassionate?

With public opinion polls showing President Obama’s sinking approval rate, in the wake of his administration’s multiple fiascoes and scandals — the disgraceful treatment of veterans who need medical care, the Internal Revenue Service coverups, the tens of thousands of children flooding across our open border — Republicans have created two new distractions that may yet draw attention away from the Democrats’ troubles.

From the Republican establishment, Speaker of the House John Boehner has announced plans to sue Barack Obama for exceeding his authority. And from the Tea Party wing of the Republicans, former Governor Sarah Palin has called for impeachment of the president.

Does President Obama deserve to be sued or impeached? Yes! Is there a snowball’s chance in hell that either the lawsuit or an impeachment will succeed? No!…

Not just “No!”, but “HELL NO!!!”

Next up, yet Another Sign The Apocalypse is Upon Us, and an idiot emblematic with of much of what’s wrong with America:

Clueless Man Claims Territory in North Sudan to Make Daughter Princess

gc5ji0bivwdtmma27u04

A story ran in the Washington Post yesterday that is equal parts cringeworthy and baffling. A Virginia man, out of the desire to prove to his children that he’d “go to the ends of the earth to make their wishes and dreams come true,” claimed land along the Sudanese border to fulfill his daughter’s wish to become a princess.

The story starts like this:

Jeremiah Heaton was playing with his daughter in their Abingdon, Va., home last winter when she asked whether she could be a real princess.

Most parents would then say, “No, you can’t. It’s just now how things work.” Not Heaton. He—for some reason—said yes, okay. Sure, we’ll figure it out.

Clueless…

…is putting it lightly!

Moving on, as this next item from The Boss confirms, there’s clueless…

generals

The JCS: put ’em together and they still don’t have a complete set of balls between them.

In a piece titled “Top US Military Leaders Supported Bergdahl Exchange,” The Wall Street Journal reports:

Top US military leaders fully supported the decision to exchange five Taliban prisoners to secure the release of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, who had been held captive in Afghanistan for five years, according to letters released Thursday.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff and its chairman unanimously supported the decision to swap the detainees to win the freedom of Sgt. Bergdahl, said the letters, released by Sen. Carl Levin (D., Mich), who heads the Senate Armed Services Committee.

Um, no they didn’t. The story continues:

The operation to free Sgt. Bergdahl was closely held, and the letters revealed that out of the seven members of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, only Gen. Dempsey and Adm. James Winnefeld knew the details of the mission.

Gen. Raymond Odierno, the chief of staff of the Army, said “he was not consulted in any way” about the decision to release Sgt. Bergdahl, but he supported the move.

In other words — except for Gen. Dempsey and Admiral Winnefeld — our top military leaders were not asked before the fact what they thought. It’s not accurate to say they “supported” the decision, because they were not asked. They were not “consulted in any way” before the fact. Rather, they were asked to endorse the decision publicly after the fact.

Big difference.

What is this, North Korea? The great leader makes a decision and then demands a public loyalty oath from his generals? Of course, every member of the Joint Chiefs is going to say they support the decision now, after it has already happened. It would have been interesting to find out what they thought beforehand, when they still had the ability to influence the president’s choice. Maybe they would have supported the exchange, maybe they would not have. We’ll never know. Because no one asked their opinion when it could have made a difference.

But let’s be clear what this parade of letters, demanded by the Democratic chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, is – a PR stunt to give Obama cover for releasing five dangerous terrorists.

Which makes Carl Levin, like his Obafuhrer…

Finally, we’ll call it a day with another titillating tale torn from the pages of The Crime Blotter, courtesy of our middle son Mike:

Thomaston Man Arrested After Stabbing Watermelon

Carmine+Cervellino1200

A 49-year-old Connecticut man has been charged with threatening after his wife told police he stabbed and carved a watermelon in a passive-aggressive manner.

Thomaston Police Chief Jim Campbell said Carmine Cervellino’s wife originally went to police on July 4 to report finding marijuana and drugs in a toolbox at the house. The toolbox was not there when police responded and no charges were filed. When the woman later returned home, she found a watermelon on the counter with a butcher’s knife in it, police said. She told police that Cervellino came in soon after and carved the watermelon in a passive-aggressive manner, Campbell said.

The Register Citizen of Torrington, which originally reported the story, said the woman took a photo of the toolbox and the knife and showed them to police. The couple is in the process of going through a divorce, according to police.

Though we’ve yet to determine what law Cervellino violated, the fact he repeatedly referred to his wife as the “melon of my eye” likely didn’t help matters.  One thing’s for certain: reconciliation is out of the question.
