It’s Monday, February 14th, 2022…but before we begin, here’s a terrible idea born of bad policy:

Residents respond to Bay Area mayor calling on homeowners to alleviate homeless crisis

Would I open up a spare room for a homeless person? Probably not,” one San Francisco resident, Milo, told Fox News.

Another person, Scott, said: “Would I? I don’t have a room in my apartment.”

One Bay Area resident, Nichole, told Fox News: “I don’t know how they’re going to fix the homeless problem, but I just think that asking the residents to step up is not a good idea.” “I have a family and I have girls,” she added. “I just don’t think that it’s safe.”…”

NO SH*T, Sherlock!  Ya think?!?

Utah woman’s throat slit by homeless man who she let into her home to take a shower

Thus does the government attempt to place the consequences of a problem it created even further on the backs of taxpayers already providing the funding for counterproductive measures to combat same.

At the risk of coming across as uncaring, the nation’s homeless problem is the direct result of the ACLU bringing suit in the early ’70s on behalf of mental patients, (EDITOR’S NOTE: They’re proud of what they did!) who, in cooperation with Progressive jurists, loosed these drug-addicted, mentally-impaired individuals upon the nation, making circumstances worse for them as well as society as a whole.  Yet the solution is as simple as keeping birds from soiling your deck: stop feeding them!  You stop feeding them, and all the shells, debris and droppings will vanish almost overnight.

Still, hypocrisy runs deep in the Socialist psyche, to wit:

Let’s be clear on something: Los Angeles and other Socialist enclaves have never turned a blind eye to the problem of homelessness; Rather they’ve instituted policies which have enabled and promoted it.

Now, here’s The Gouge!

First up, The Washington Free Beacon details how the free crack pipe controversy…

…has morphed into yet another attempt by the 46* clown car and their MSM shills to rewrite history, and demonstrates yet anew…

The Biden Administration Thinks You’re Stupid

and the fact-checkers actually are

The Biden administration thinks you, the American people, are stupid. That much is clear given its response this week to a Washington Free Beacon report exposing the administration’s plan to “fund the distribution of crack pipes to drug addicts as part of its plan to advance ‘racial equity.'”

Despite confirming the details of reporter Patrick Hauf’s story, the Department of Health and Human Services subsequently determined—more than 24 hours after publication—that the story was “blatant misinformation.” A spokesperson offered no evidence to support this claim. Asked for clarification, the spokesperson responded 10 hours later to denounce once again the report as “misleading and misinformed” but offered no evidence as justification.

Media “fact-checkers” willingly repurposed the administration’s talking points in an attempt to discredit our reporting. Not surprisingly, the result was an incoherent messSnopes, for example, said our story was “mostly false” because crack pipes were “just one of around 20 components of the grant program.” (We know, because we listed several others in the report, such as “syringes, vaccinations, disease screenings, condoms, and fentanyl strips.”) Not a single word contradicted what the Free Beacon reported.

Another “independent” “fact-check” by a website called Lead Stories (we’ve never heard of it, either) resulted in Facebook censoring the report for containing “false information.” The site was co-founded by a former CNN “journalist” (italics added!) and a Colorado personal injury attorney who has donated thousands of dollars to Democrats and zero dollars to Republicans, so it must be a reliable source.

Both fact checks have been updated after the administration announced on Wednesday that “no federal funding will be used” to distribute crack pipes to underserved communities in an effort to promote racial equity. White House press secretary Jen Psaki insisted that crack pipes “were never a part” of the “safe smoking kits” described in government government documents. She blamed “inaccurate reporting” for the confusion.

The Drug Policy Alliance was also confused, and understandably so. The group’s executive director, Kassandra Frederique, accused the administration of “backtracking” and expressed disappointment that “they will no longer allow federal funding to go towards putting pipes in safer smoking supplies.”

Got that? The administration “will no longer” provide free crack pipes that “were never a part” of the taxpayer-funded smoking kits. Because the right-wing media are publishing “inaccurate reporting” and spreading “blatant disinformation.” It’s almost as if the White House is full of shit and thinks you’re stupid. (Fact check: They are and they do.)

That’s the only reasonable conclusion. The administration’s story is utter nonsense. Existing harm reduction programs across the country include pipes in the smoking kits they give to crack addicts. Take, for example, a program from California’s Department of Public Health, which openly advertises glass pipes. Other programs in cities such as Annapolis, Md.New Haven, Conn., and Seattle, Wash., all include crack pipes in their smoking kits.

These are exactly the sort of cities the administration was targeting when it announced the funding opportunity, and there is nothing in the announcement that tells these communities they would have to modify the contents of their smoking kits to qualify for funding. In fact, the HHS spokesman told the Free Beacon that the department does not specify what is in the kits, leaving that detail to program participants at the local level.

Even after the White House denial that crack pipes will be funded, the administration still won’t say it never planned to include them. “The department did not respond when asked by the New York Times if glass pipes were ever allowable under the grant provisions,” the paper wrote on Thursday evening.

Like most Democratic institutions, the Biden administration has a habit of dismissing inconvenient stories as “misinformation” without actually refuting them. Administration officials tend to lash out at anyone who questions their authority or expresses an ounce of skepticism. Last week, for example, journalists who requested evidence to back up the administration’s claims regarding a military strike in Syria or the situation in Ukraine were accused of siding with the enemy.

It makes sense that the Biden administration would be especially sensitive when it comes to inconvenient stories about crack pipes. But that doesn’t excuse the blatant misinformation or their shockingly low opinion of the American public’s intelligence. You deserve better and, at least according to the supporters of this administration’s original plan, so do America’s crackheads.

Remember, Liberals lie but once, and that continually.

Moving on, NRO‘s Kevin Williamson relates…

Why Progressives Can’t Quit Their Masks

It is a matter of cultural identity, not a matter of policy or science.

While there has been a quietly energetic campaign to memory-hole the fact, some of you will remember that, in the run-up to the 2020 presidential campaign, vaccine skepticism was a Democratic thing, not a Republican thing. Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Andrew Cuomo, and every third progressive nitwit on Twitter cast doubt on the safety and the efficacy of the Covid-19 vaccines that were being developed under Operation Warp Speed, the Trump administration’s program to expedite a vaccine. It was childishly predictable: With Election Day looming, anything that might redound to the credit of the Trump administration had to be cast into doubt or held up for scorn. We are governed by people who have never mentally or morally progressed beyond the politics of the junior-high lunchroom.

Given the weight that masking now has in our culture, it is amusing to consider the possibility put forward by some scholars that ritual head covering began as a sanitary measure — that hair first was covered in public as a prophylactic against infection by lice and other vermin. From thence, the theory goes, the covered head came to be a sign of physical cleanliness, and, by extension, moral purity.

Whatever else it does or does not do, the Covid-era mask has taken on that role. It may not do much of anything to stop the spread of the virus, but it says something — in some contexts, a great deal — about what kind of person you are. I think that if I could learn two things about a person — the situations in which he will wear a mask even if it is not strictly required and the situations in which he will refuse to comply with a mask requirement — I could probably tell you for whom he voted in 2020. In Tibet, the two main monastic sects differentiate themselves by the color of their hats, red for one and yellow for the other. Puritans wore capotains (“pilgrim hats,” as they are commonly called) to set themselves apart from other, less austere Christians. The turbans that Sikhs wear are meant to symbolize social equality among believers, but they also communicate another message: Us and Them.

So, too, with masks.

And that is what is making unmasking — and a more general return to normal — so difficult for so many of our progressive friends: It has become a cultural and social issue, and a quasi-religious one at that. For a certain kind of progressive, giving up masking feels like giving in. It doesn’t feel to them like the epidemic has been beaten — it feels to them like they have been beaten, and their cultural enemies (Joe Rogan, and that estranged uncle who is angry on Facebook) have won.

This is a near-guarantee of bitter social conflict…”

Case in point:

Here’s the juice, in the form of a meme from Balls:

Since we’re on the subject of riots fancifully blamed on the unintended demise of a fentanyl-filled career criminal, FOX informs us the…

Austin DA has launched over 20 grand jury cases against cops who responded during George Floyd riots

Travis County, Texas, District Attorney Joe Garza has scheduled a grand jury to consider charging over twenty police officers for their response to violent riots in Austin following the death of George Floyd in 2020. The formation of the grand jury, confirmed by Fox News, is predicated on protests near Austin Police Headquarters on May 30 and 31, 2020, during which APD officers fired bean bags, rubber bullets, and tear gas during a protest that spiraled out of control

At least 21 officers are facing potential charges for firing less than lethal rounds at protesters who were blocking I-35, the main interstate through Austin, and refusing to disperse after multiple instructions by police to do so. Interstate 35 is the main traffic artery through downtown Austin, connecting the Texas capital to points north including Dallas and south including San Antonio. Attempting to block the interstate was illegal. Austin Police Headquarters is next to the interstate and protesters kept it under a state of siege for several nights…”

Soooo…the Austin D.A. is considering charging police officers for dispersing demonstrators who were blocking an interstate.  Sorta, kinda like the treatment Socialists are urging Canada accord the Freedom Convoy.  Yes, in urban enclaves across the fruited plain, cops are the criminals.

Next, we offer a quintet of items certain to pique the interest of inquiring Conservative minds:

(1). Matthew Continetti suggests America is gambling with its future, as he relates the true costs of mainstream sports betting.

(2). U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy said in a recent interview that coronavirus restrictions should be scaled back “as the pandemic improves” but that the pandemic is not yet over:

The pandemic is not over today. We are still seeing record numbers of hospitalizations, deaths, and cases in this country. I think that as the pandemic gets better, we should be pulling back on restrictions. The conversation now is about what should determine when that happens.”

Sorry, but “record numbers” compared to what…and when?!?

(3). In a related item, writing at the Weekend Jolt, Judson Berger tells us, while everything is political, the politics of the WuFlu are especially awful.

(4). Speaking of awful, the 46* clown car continues to go from bad

to worse

…which, up ’til now, we frankly believed was impossible.  Can you imagine

…what “worst” will look like?!?

(5). The Journal reports Jeff Zucker’s departure has shaken CNN’s “talent“.  “Talent”,…WHAT “talent”?!?

Which brings us, appropriately enough, to The Lighter Side:

Then there’s this instant classic from Speed…

And the scope needs to be introduced through your ear!

Finally, in the News of the Bizarre, FOX tells us the sad story of how an…

Oregon man fighting off bear accidentally kills his brother, then kills himself

Authorities say a man in Oregon trying to protect his home from a bear instead fatally shot his brother by mistake, then killed himself. Josephine County Undersheriff Travis Snyder said the man called 911 around 7 a.m. Tuesday and told dispatchers he had “accidentally shot his brother while loading a gun” after being startled by the bear.

The Oregonian/OregonLive reports deputies went to the home in Sunny Valley, an unincorporated community off Interstate 5 in the southwest corner of the state. There they found a man dead from a gunshot wound. Snyder said they checked the rural residence and found a second man dead. He had died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound…”

Sorry, but this just doesn’t smell right.  Unless the bear let himself into the house and surprised the guy in bed, we don’t get the rush to load his weapon.  And while we understand the concept of remorse, killing oneself in response to an accidental shooting seems…well…overkill.

Video of the Day

Has anyone in Ottawa…or Washington…stopped to think what might happen if truckers decide to strike if these Progressive pansies actually try to impose the penalties they’re threatening?!? The clip at the 7:57 mark says it all.

Tales of The Darkside

Would it surprise anyone to learn the MSM’s burying this story?

On the Lighter Side

Viewing this video, we didn’t know whether to laugh or cry; So we decided to cry for our country, and laugh at the imbeciles who voted for this demented old kleptocrat because of Trump’s tweets.
