It’s Wednesday, February 16th, 2022…but before we begin, we always enjoy the brilliance of Kevin Williamson, and his latest offering, The Forever Emergency, was certainly no exception.  We did, however, take exception to this…

But the kind of wounds we have as Americans are not the kind that can be healed by shared trauma or shared grief, or by political factionalism based on these. Covid-19 did not make us one and whole any more than 9/11 did 20 years before. War with the Russians or the Chinese is not going to do it, either. Our Republican–Democrat split is no more about political policies than Northern Ireland’s Catholic–Protestant troubles were about theology, and, as such, there is no political solution possible.

The split between Republicans and Socialists isn’t about political policies?  Seriously?!?  What about…

1. When it comes to most every problem facing this nation, not only is government NOT the solution, but government likely IS the problem.

2. When government action is required, outside of the powers specifically granted Washington under the Constitution, solutions should come at the state and local level.

3. Our borders should be secure and illegal aliens deported.

4. Although abortion is murder, see #2 above.

5. Anyone in need of government assistance must be a citizen and be required to perform some form of labor.  Such government assistance should never be in the form of cash.

6. Free market Capitalism is what made America great, and should continue as the bedrock of our financial system.  Socialism/Communism has NEVER worked, and they are evil political systems (Yes, including the CCP) that enslave the masses to benefit only those animals who are more equal than others.

7. Taxes can never be too low.  Out of control spending is the problem, NOT insufficient tax revenue.

8. The Constitution means precisely what the Founding Fathers wrote, does not contain penumbras formed by emanations and needs no interpretation or updating to codify perversion and decadence.  And the 2nd Amendment wasn’t included because the deer were coming.

9. The science of anthropogenic global warming is junk, no matter what term you use in promoting it.

10. The Wuhan virus was developed in the Wuhan Institute of Virology with financial assistance granted from Drs. Anthony Fauci and Francis Collins.  The lockdowns were incredibly costly and counterproductive, masking utterly unnecessary and any health emergency is over.  And no government has the right to force individuals to take a vaccine, nor make one’s employment contingent upon same.

11. The vast majority of police officers are good, every single criminal is bad.  And riots, looting, arson and murder aren’t legitimate forms of protest.

12. Swift and sure imposition of the death penalty in appropriate cases is an effective deterrent to crime.

13. The vast majority of the homeless are addicts, suffering from psychological problems or both.  And they’re homeless ’cause they don’t want to live by anyone else’s rules.  Society needs protection from them, not vice versa.

14. There are only two genders, and mentally-challenged males should not participate in women’s sports, let alone be allowed access to women’s bathrooms and locker rooms.

15. People who never owned slaves are not beholden to those who were never enslaved.

16. Black Lies Matter is based on utter and complete fabrications. America is no more systemically racist than Elizabeth Warren is a Cherokee.

17. The president of El Salvador is right, and Justin Trudeau completely wrong.  Hells bells, even the Canadian Civil Liberties Association agrees with us:

We could go on…and on…and on, ad nauseam, ad infinitum, but you get the point: The divide between Republicans and Dimocrats, particularly at the grassroots level, is based on political policies, and the span of the abyss is as far as the East is from the West.

Now, here’s The Gouge!

First up, Best of the Web updates us on the unfolding scandal the MSM will never cover:

Hillary Clinton’s Other Dossier

Another stunning abuse by her 2016 campaign.

“…The current case hinges on whether Mr. Sussmann, then at the Perkins Coie law firm, was honest about his work for the Clinton campaign. But the other alleged abuses described by the special counsel in Friday’s filing appear to be far worse. Mr. Durham’s story of the extreme lengths that Clinton allies allegedly went to gather information and then misrepresent it to harm Mr. Trump will leave many readers asking how any of this could possibly have been legal.

To sum up the special counsel’s argument in this case, an appalling abuse of private and public resources to gather dirt on Donald Trump did not turn up any dirt. So the alleged perpetrators just pretended they had found something significant and tried to persuade federal agencies that Mr. Trump had disturbing connections to Russians. Mr. Sussmann maintains that he is not guilty and deserves the presumption of innocence just like everybody else.

As for the political campaign that was paying the bills, was there anything that Hillary Clinton would not do to her 2016 opponent?

Or any other…

…opponent.

Though it will never happen, here’s the juice, courtesy of Balls Cotton:

Meanwhile, when not completely ignoring the story, the MSM continues to peddle the totally discredited Russian collusion narrative as fast as Ben Shapiro can talk, as evidenced by this tweet from New York Times propagandist Mike McIntire:

McIntire’s intransigence couldn’t be connected to the fact, as his Times bio page notes, he “shared the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for reporting on covert Russian interference in the U.S. presidential election”.  The Times certainly seems to have mastered the art of receiving Pulitzer Prizes for material misrepresentations of the facts

And though Federalist editor-in-chief Mollie Hemingway was dead-on, balls accurate when she tweeted…

I’m far too kind when I say most corporate media exist to protect Democrats/the establishment and advance their agenda. Any person not fighting the propaganda press with everything they have is part of the problem.”

…we’ll leave the last word to former Acting Director of National Intelligence Ric Grenell:

For those interested in a succinct summary of this situation, we highly recommend either of two editorials, the first from the Journal courtesy of The Boss, the second from NROSPOILER ALERT: While both are highly critical of Team Hillary’s conduct, neither concludes Durham’s investigation will result in…

Next up, in a brilliant piece at AEI, Danielle Pletka relates why…

China’s Olympics are at the center of a new axis of evil

“…The litany of the sins of these terrible regimes is well known. And there are others who deserve pride of place in the axis as well. We know what they do, we know how they do it, their trespasses on the morals and the customs of modern governance are well documented.

So how is it that, like some bizarre cartoon meeting of evil masterminds, they have all (except North Korea) gathered in Beijing under the Olympic torch to enjoy the glow and approbation of the International Olympic Committee, sponsorship from dozens of American and other companies, quiescence from the icons of international sport? Good question.

Perhaps it goes back to the question of why Bush’s axis-of-evil speech is now considered a joke. Certainly, there are those who believe that the Iraq War that Bush hinted at in 2002 was a terrible mistake. But more importantly, it is now commonplace on both the left and the right to insist that it is not America’s job to stand against evil in the world. Or worse still, that the evil that we see with our own eyes is of no consequence.

There’s no doubt that Americans are weary after two years of lockdowns and sickness, intent on their own problems. They’re also sick and tired of Europeans always looking to Washington to solve problems of their own making, on their own doorstep. They wonder how to stop Putin from invading Ukraine, how to stop China from crushing Taiwan, and they ask themselves whether any of it matters to them. Fair enough.

But as George W. Bush said, it is the job of the commander in chief to stand where others may not, to anticipate threats and to keep the American people safe. It is not clear that the world is a safe place, or that those who come for Ukraine, or Taiwan, or kill hundreds of thousands will not soon come for Americans. Why? Because they are emboldened by our passivity in the face of all these outrages. They are contemptuous of our pretenses at anger, our performative sanctions, and our weak “diplomatic boycotts.” They are satisfied that it is they who are driving a reordering of the world on their terms. As Xi Jinping might note, it is you who are playing the games on our fields. Indeed we are.

And this feckless fool…

…is at the helm of our increasingly wayward ship of state.

Since we’re on the subject of 46*’s gross ineptitude, courtesy of Townhall.com, Derek Hunter poses an intriguing possibility when he posits…

What If This Whole ‘Ukraine Invasion’ Was A Hoax?

Let me preface this with the fact that I don’t know what I’m going to speculate about here to be true, but it’s the only thing that makes sense of the entire situation. Of course, if Russia invades Ukraine, either by the time this is published Tuesday or anytime thereafter, this could look pretty stupid. Still, I’m willing to risk it because nothing else makes any sense, when you consider the entire situation.

What if the idea of Russia invading Ukraine is a hoax? What if it’s just Russia doing what Russia loves doing – saber rattling – and nothing else? What if the western governments scrambling now to “prevent war” know this and are hoping the whole situation serve as a distraction from the various “Freedom Convoys” forming around the world to protest oppressive and ineffective government actions related to COVID?

Joe Biden needs a distraction from a lot of things, inflation being chief among them. It makes sense that he’s spewing things in such a panicked way that even the President of Ukraine is confused by it. You’d think the leader of the country “on the verge” of being invaded would be sounding the loudest alarm, but he’s not. The American President is.

Why would Biden care so much about something that only impacts Americans insofar as they are in the country at the time, while ignoring the inflation that is damaging people’s lives in the United States?

Honestly, if Russia did attack Ukraine you would care? Would you even noticeThe answer is pretty easy to figure out. Russia invaded Ukraine in 2014. Did you notice then? How has your life been impacted by it? I’d bet not at all. So why would this be different?

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want Russia to invade. I think every country should be left alone. But am I worked up about it? No. The President of the United States, on the other hand, would like me to be. Joe needs a “victory” of some sort, something to make him seem effective and tough, something his handlers think will wash the taste of Afghanistan out of our collective mouths…”

We’d have said Derek was crazy…had we not just watched as a genetically-engineered virus whose development was funded by the U.S. health bureaucracy conveniently escaped from an insecure facility in Wuhan, China just in time to provide 46* the edge he needed to defeat The Donald.  Then again, it could be intended to aid Xi with his intentions towards Taiwan.  Either way, just sayin’.

Moving on, here’s another septet of items certain to pique the interest of inquiring Conservative minds:

(1). Speaking of Vlad, via Rebekah Koffler’s White House Dossier, The Washington Free Beacon relates any worries Putin might have concerning a potential NATO military response to any aggression against Ukraine have to be muted by the organization’s Gender-Inclusive Language Manual intended to “create language that reflects our way of looking at the world today and that helps shape the world for tomorrow.

So NATO’s got that goin’ for ’em…

(2). In more news of the WuFlu, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said Monday the city will lift its mask requirements for many public venues, including bars, restaurants and concerts – but NOT schoolchildren.  Hey, it’s impossible to follow the science when you’re beholden to the teachers’ unions.

(3). Meanwhile, the Morning Jolt accurately assesses the Omicron wave is just about done, noting, “If somebody’s vaccinated, boosted, and had Covid-19 . . . there’s nothing else that person can do to protect themselves. (Okay, other than living a healthy lifestyle and maybe taking vitamins.) Their bodies have had it and their immune systems now know how to fight it off.”

Time to unmask, America!

(4). Also via White House Dossier, writing at Tablet, Vinay Prasad informs us how the CDC abandoned science, as in every case, its papers “are uniquely timed to further political goals and objectives; as such, these papers appear more as propaganda than as science”.

(5). The great VDH introduces us to Joe Biden, alchemist, as the flailing fool desperately “tries to turn his record of dross into golden success”.

(6). In a related item, Jim Geraghty notes, “Almost one year ago today: “President Joe Biden used his first address before a global audience Friday to declare that ‘America is back! The transatlantic alliance is back!’” Yesterday, the U.S. abandoned one of its overseas embassies for the second time in six months.”

(7). As this forward from Carl Polizzi tells us, San Francisco’s Millennium Tower continues to tilt, and the engineer tasked with correcting it is one Ronald O. Hamburger.  Hamburger, eh?

What could go wrong?!?

Which brings us, appropriately enough, to The Lighter Side:

Then there’s this stream of comic Conservative consciousness courtesy of Ed Hickey:

Catholic priest incorrectly performed thousands of baptisms by changing word, making them invalid

The Diocese of Phoenix said ‘all of the baptisms he has performed until June 17, 2021, are presumed invalid

“…Father Andres Arango resigned from St. Gregory Catholic Church in Phoenix after it was determined he used the words “We baptize you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,” instead of the correct phrase “I baptize you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,” according to Thomas J. Olmsted, the bishop of the Diocese of Phoenix. “The issue with using ‘We’ is that it is not the community that baptizes a person, rather, it is Christ, and Him alone, who presides at all of the sacraments, and so it is Christ Jesus who baptizes,” Olmsted said.

Arango served as a pastor, parochial administrator, parochial vicar, and other religious titles in Arizona, California, and Brazil over the past 20 years. The Diocese of Phoenix said that because of his error, “all of the baptisms he has performed until June 17, 2021, are presumed invalid.”

…For those in the Catholic faith, a baptism is a sacrament in which people, typically infants, have water poured over their foreheads, which symbolizes purification and admission to the Church. “Baptism is a requirement for salvation,” according to the Diocese of Phoenix…”

Two questions and one thought immediately came to our born-again Southern Baptist mind:

(1) Might we inquire of one of our Roman Catholic brothers where in Scripture it says baptism is a requirement to be saved?  Baptism is a public expression of one’s faith in Jesus Christ as Savior, but the latter, not the former, is the only necessity for salvation.

(2) Also, who decided a specific pronoun or liturgy validates a baptism?  After all, the good Padre could have been using the royal “we”, or, particularly these days, perhaps “we” was his preferred pronoun?

(3) If this doesn’t teach kids the importance of proper grammar, nothing will.

Tales of The Darkside

Not that we watch the NBA, but we find it more than passing strange belated China basher Enes Kanter gets traded from the Celtics to the Rockets after scoring 7 points and grabbing 12 rebounds against the Nets, and is promptly waived by Houston. Coincidence? We think…NOT!!!

Hat tip to Balls for this beauty. All that’s needed is John Kerry as Lurch.
