It’s Monday, June 2nd, 2014…and here’s The Gouge!

First up, a story whose seemingly happy ending is far from reality as the rest of this Administration’s supposed triumphs:

US soldier held captive by Taliban in Afghanistan for nearly five years freed

Like The Dear Misleader’s Memorial Day trip to Afghanistan, it all makes for a great sound bite in an election year where the Dims are about to take a shellacking for their defense cutbacks and willful disregard for the welfare of veterans: an innocent young soldier freed on humanitarian grounds to the joy of his retro-hippy parents:

Bob Bergdahl, Jani Bergdahl

Except for the following inconvenient truths: (1) At best, Sergeant Bergdahl wandered off the base in a drunken stupor; at worst, as the UK’s Daily Mail reports…

Was Taliban POW a deserter before he was captured and held for five years? Soldier ‘sent emails that he was planning to leave his post after becoming disillusioned with the war’

Bowe-berkdahl-released-deserter-1

…he deserted.  Add to that the fact he appeared on video lying about the circumstances of his capture, US policy in Afghanistan and speaking out against his country and you’ve got a young man hardly worth overturning decades of US policy against negotiating with terrorists.

Particularly, as this forward from Balls Cotton and The Weekly Standard notes, when one considers for who we traded him:

Five of the Most Dangerous Taliban Commanders in U.S. Custody Exchanged for American Captive

(2) Although the WaPo can’t bring itself to put the salient point in its headline, it’s readily apparent The Obamao once again broke the law in order in the interest of short-term political gain:

Bergdahl release arrangement could threaten the safety of Americans, Republicans say

“Amid jubilation Saturday over the release of U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl from captivity by the Taliban, senior Republicans on Capitol Hill said they were troubled by the means by which it was accomplished, which was a deal to release five Afghan detainees from the military prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Top Republicans on the Senate and House armed services committees went so far as to accuse President Obama of having broken the law, which requires the administration to notify Congress before any transfers from Guantanamo are carried out.

Lawmakers were not notified of the Guantanamo detainees’ transfer until after it occurred.

The law requires the defense secretary to notify relevant congressional committees at least 30 days before making any transfers of prisoners, to explain the reason and to provide assurances that those released would not be in a position to reengage in activities that could threaten the United States or its interests.

Before the current law was enacted at the end of last year, the conditions were even more stringent. However, the administration and some Democrats had pressed for them to be loosened, in part to give them more flexibility to negotiate for Bergdahl’s release.

A senior administration official, agreeing to speak on the condition of anonymity to explain the timing of the congressional notification, acknowledged that the law was not followed. When he signed the law last year, Obama issued a signing statement contending that the notification requirement was an unconstitutional infringement on his powers as commander in chief and that he therefore could override it.

“Due to a near-term opportunity to save Sergeant Bergdahl’s life, we moved as quickly as possible,” the official said. “The administration determined that given these unique and exigent circumstances, such a transfer should go forward notwithstanding the notice requirement.”…”

What…the guy’s been a prisoner five years and suddenly the exigency of his release prohibits time even time for a phone call?!?

Yeah…

yeahright

Thus The Obamao acts as his own government; executive, legislative and judicial rolled into one.  Seems to us there’s a phrase for that; oh yeah…

(3) As author Brad Thor notes in our Quote of the Day above, having overturned long-standing U.S. policy against negotiating with terrorists or hostage-takers, Barack Hussein Obama has just declared open season on American citizens for radical Islamists around the globe.  Courtesy of The Blaze, Zach Noble poses…

And lest we forget, this forward from American Spectator, courtesy of Stephen Cervieri, reminds us exactly with whom our President is negotiating:

The Greatest Murder Machine in History

“When one thinks of mass murder, Hitler comes to mind. If not Hitler, then Tojo, Stalin, or Mao. Credit is given to the 20th-century totalitarians as the worst species of tyranny to have ever arisen. However, the alarming truth is that Islam has killed more than any of these, and may surpass all of them combined in numbers and cruelty.

The enormity of the slaughters of the “religion of peace” are so far beyond comprehension that even honest historians overlook the scale. When one looks beyond our myopic focus, Islam is the greatest killing machine in the history of mankind, bar none

Even the slaughter by the Rachel Carson-inspired Environazis pales in comparison.

To borrow a phrase from the immortal Jimmy Malone in The Untouchables, this entire Administration stinks like a whorehouse at low tide.  In fact, from top to bottom, it’s such a joke…

…even members of the MSM are beginning to realize it!  Albeit, belatedly.

Meanwhile, the hits just keep on coming:

Which brings us at last, appropriately enough, to the Lighter Side…
