It’s Wednesday, November 13th, 2019…but before we begin, as this headline forwarded by Walt Meisen demonstrates, score one for the snowflakes:

Citing ‘gun violence,’ UVA cancels 21-gun salute portion of Veterans Day ceremony

That certainly would have brought us screaming into the street.  Thus the children of the ’60s continue to create generations of jellyfish.

Now, here’s The Gouge!

We lead off the mid-week offering with the latest from Michael Brendan Dougherty, who, courtesy of NRO, suggests…

Nikki Haley Has a Point

In our constitutional order, unelected insiders do not set foreign policy.

“…Haley’s recent media tour may be about promoting her book and her prospects, but she’s doing so by staking her claims on solid constitutional grounds. The danger Haley refers to is very real. There is no “American foreign policy” that operates independently from the elected branches of government or that needs protection from them. Believing so invites our elected and appointed political class to draw ever further away from the people they govern, and it threatens the legitimacy of our institutions and elections.

We’ve gotten to this dangerous spot for many reasons. What Trump critics see as his erratic decision-making, his lack of experience, and his character are all a larger part of that story. But so too are those unfaithful servants in the executive branch who have sought to accomplish their own private agendas and put those ahead of the president’s. So too has Congress disfigured the presidential office by kicking over so many responsibilities to the executive branch. But one good thing about Haley’s sudden presence is her reminder that the presidency is bigger than Trump. And it needs to be in working order for the succession of people — Democratic, Republican, and others — who will occupy it in the future.

As MBD points out, and the illustration above indicates, Haley has a vested interest in pointing both ways.  Still, we recall Tillerson was never in synch with his President’s policies, leading us to give Nikki the benefit of the doubt…for now.

Anonymity Games

Rarely has so much been demanded of so many by so few unidentified sources.

The government “whistleblower” seeking to overturn the results of an election in which more than 120 million Americans identified themselves and then voted is still insisting on anonymity. But a second anonymous federal employee is now blowing the whistle on the first one, alleging a problem with anonymous donations.

Another fundraising effort, which does not appear to be related, is the anonymous publication of a book critical of the President and purportedly written by a senior government official. “White House laughs off Anonymous book as old news” is the headline on a Politicostory by Daniel Lippman. According to Mr. Lippman, there is some debate within Team Trump about whether the author is remaining anonymous due to a lack of courage or an abundance of marketing savvy

Speaking of raising funds, a participant in the 2016 presidential election is also on a book tour, and is sending a message from overseas. Judy Kurtz reports in The Hill:

“I will certainly tell you, I’m under enormous pressure from many, many, many people to think about it,” the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee continued.

“I feel a sense of responsibility partly because, you know, my name was on the ballot, I got more votes, but ended up losing to the current incumbent in the White House who I think is really undermining our democracy in very fundamental ways,” Clinton said. “And I want to retire him.”

It remains unclear at this writing whether the “many, many people” allegedly urging Mrs. Clinton to consider a run are also requesting anonymity.

Seeking both attention and anonymity seems to be the political fad of the year. Perhaps next year people will consider modesty and accountability.

Only if, between now and then, every Progressive politician and activist is magically transported to the surface of Mars.

In the meantime, we trust Hillary’s word about as much as that of another famed liar before her:

As for Hillary’s contention “many, many people” are urging her to run, it reminds us of the assurances offered by the G-man at the end Raiders of the Lost Ark:

Next up, as this report from FOX Business relates…

BART system apologizes to black rider cuffed for eating

“…BART board director Janice Li…said on Twitter that enforcement is a matter of priorities and not all laws are enforced. “For me, there are WAY bigger issues at BART than enforcing no drinking/eating,” she wrote…”

Here’s the juice:

But not at police cuffing a commuter with attitude (you can watch the entire, unedited video here, but keep in mind it begins after the initial confrontation) for violating a civic ordinance designed to maintain the cleanliness of the BART system.

What truly bothers us is the arrest occurred just across the Bay from a city which just elected an anarchist District Attorney (more on him below), permits public urination and defecation and encourages the use of illegal intravenous drugs, yet utilizes a mass transit system which prohibits the consumption of food on its cars or station platforms.  They’re not referred to as “Libtards” for nothin’!

Next up, again courtesy of Walt Meisen, two headlines whose subjects are indicative of where the Dimocratic Party’s heading.  First, writing at Red State, Nick Arama warns…

The Background Of The Winner For San Francisco DA Should Concern Us All

Now, meet Joe Morrissey:

Controversial Lawmaker Who Served Time for Teen Sex Scandal Wins Virginia State Senate Seat

San Francisco deserves a D.A. with no prosecutorial experience who’s the son of convicted cop-killers raised by Barry Soetoro’s pals Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn.  And though at first we were tempted to question how any district in Virginia could elect as reprehensible a reprobate as Joe Morrissey, we recalled South Carolina returned Mark Sanford to elected office…and continue to re-elect Lindsay Grahamnesty.

Since we’re on the subject of utterly unprincipled Progressives (do they come in any other variety?!?), courtesy of FOX News via George Lawlor, we learn Julián…

Castro swipes at Iowa and New Hampshire, argues they’re not diverse enough to keep primary status

Guess they’re just further from the Mexican border than other states…like Vermont…Maine…Wyoming…Wisconsin…Idaho…Montana…South Dakota…North Dakota…etc., etc., etc.  Including Minnesota…outside of Minneapolis.

Which brings us, appropriately enough, to The Lighter Side:

Finally, we’ll call it a day with these two accurate representations of prominent Progressives from Ed Hickey…

…along with this contribution from our sister-in-law Amy:

To which we can only add, particularly to that last one, a hearty “AMEN“!!
