It’s Friday, January 24th, 2020…but before we begin, we take a moment to heartily congratulate the great Stilton Jarlsberg on earning 1st place in the Best Cartoons of 2019 contest over at The Right Reasons.

Stilt, before you rest on your laurels, let’s be honest: there’s great

…and then there’s truly inspired:

Though we’re forced to confess a certain soft spot for the Three Bears!  BZ, Stilt: well done.

Now, here’s The Gouge!

First up, Jeff Foutch forwarded the following from Real Clear Investigations which left him wondering why the heck Republicans still haven’t put Eric Ciaramella under oath, particularly considering the…

Whistleblower Was Overheard in ’17 Discussing With Ally How to Remove Trump

Barely two weeks after Donald Trump took office, Eric Ciaramella – the CIA analyst whose name was recently linked in a tweet by the president and mentioned by lawmakers as the anonymous “whistleblower” who touched off Trump’s impeachment – was overheard in the White House discussing with another staffer how to remove the newly elected president from office, according to former colleagues.

Sources told RealClearInvestigations the staffer with whom Ciaramella (“Benedict“) was speaking was Sean Misko (“Arnold“). Both were Obama administration holdovers working in the Trump White House on foreign policy and national security issues. (Which BEGS the question WHY?!?) And both expressed anger over Trump’s new “America First” foreign policy, a sea change from President Obama’s (Chamberlainesque) approach to international affairs.

Just days after he was sworn in they were already talking about trying to get rid of him,” said a White House colleague who overheard their conversation. “They weren’t just bent on subverting his agenda,” the former official added. They were plotting to actually have him removed from office.”

Misko left the White House last summer to join House impeachment manager Adam Schiff’s committee, where sources say he offered “guidance” to the whistleblower, who has been officially identified only as an intelligence officer in a complaint against Trump filed under whistleblower laws. Misko then helped run the impeachment inquiry based on that complaint as a top investigator for congressional Democrats.

Republicans have fought unsuccessfully to call him as a witness

arguing that his motivations and associations are relevant – and that the president has the same due-process right to confront his accuser as any other American.

The whistleblower’s candor is also being called into question.  It turns out that the CIA operative failed to report his contacts with Schiff’s office to the intelligence community’s inspector general who fielded his whistleblower complaint. He withheld the information both in interviews with the inspector general, Michael Atkinson, and in writing, according to impeachment committee investigators. The whistleblower form he filled out required him to disclose whether he had “contacted other entities” — including “members of Congress.” But he left that section blank on the disclosure form he signed.

The investigators say that details about how the whistleblower consulted with Schiff’s staff and perhaps misled Atkinson about those interactions are contained in the transcript of a closed-door briefing Atkinson gave to the House Intelligence Committee last October. However, Schiff has sealed the transcript from public view. It is the only impeachment witness transcript out of 18 that he has not released…”

As Jim Jordan details…

…Schiff-for-Brains has YET to tell the truth.

Still, this doesn’t explain why the REPUBLICAN-CONTROLLED SENATE, in the course of the impeachment trial or a SEPARATE PROCEEDING, has yet to subpoena either Ciaramella, Misko OR Inspector General Atkinson.

FISA Court Confirms Two Carter Page Surveillance Applications ‘Not Valid

A FISA Court order declassified Thursday confirmed that the government had found two of the four FISA applications authorized for the FBI to surveil 2016 Trump-campaign adviser Carter Page to be “not valid,” and will further investigate the validity of the other two.

The order revealed that the government found two of the surveillance application renewals to be “not valid” based on “the material misstatements and omission” used by the FBI, which was found by the Justice Department to have “insufficient predication to establish probable cause to believe that Page was acting as an agent of a foreign power.”

Based on the ordering of the applications, it appears the review found the second and third renewal applications used against Page to be invalid, while the original application and the first renewal remain under investigation. The third renewal was personally signed by James Comey, while the fourth was signed by Andrew McCabe.

The court also said it was still waiting on the Bureau after it “agreed ‘to sequester all collection the FBI acquired pursuant to the Court’s authorizations’” against Page, but so far has not provided an update…”

Are we the only one left wondering why Chris Wray still has his job?

Trump’s only crime is being Trump

Forget the two “counts” against President Trump in the Senate trial that begins today, the reality is he is charged with only one crime. He is accused of being Donald J. Trump.

For that high crime, the Democrats say, he must be removed from office.

The Democrat “House managers” are going to get 24 hours over the next two days to lay out their opening arguments, but how are they going to fill that time, considering that they’re not even accusing him of committing any crimes?

Certainly no actual felonies — you know, Bill Clinton stuff like obstruction of justice, perjury and subornlng perjury. They just accuse him of beingDonald J. Trump.

For that they need 24 hours?…”

Well…YEAH…particularly when they’re going to attempt to peddle THIS bullsh*t!  The Dimocrats obviously never learned the First Law of Holes, namely, “When first you find yourself in a hole…

stop digging!!!”  Perhaps because Dimocrats aren’t simply “holes”, but total a*sholes!

Speaking of total a*sholes, in today’s Sports Section, if you thought this was bad

…and this perhaps worse

…neither of them holds a candle to this overly-aggressive goalie in a match between Pinecrest and Pine Forest Highs:

The best part?  The goalie was neither penalized nor suspended until after the game!

In any event, we won’t be the one telling her she plays soccer like a girl; then again, given the way many “men” play…

California driver in Mercedes-Benz leads police on chase, dies after 100 mph, 330-foot jump over river

A California driver fleeing from police died after launching his Mercedes-Benz sedan over the San Joaquin River at nearly 100 miles per hour, according to multiple reports. The car flew roughly 330 feet across the river, stunning local police. As the silver Mercedes descended, it took the tops off trees and then crashed and rolled into an upright position, witnesses said.

“In my 20 years, I’ve never seen a vehicle travel close to that distance,” California Highway Patrol (CHP) spokesman Mike Salas told Fresno’s KFSN-TV. He added that it traveled “approximately 337 feet.”

David Callahan, 58, was killed on impact, the outlet said. He was the only person in the vehicle.

Before the fatal crash, Callahan was reportedly being pursued by Fresno police around 8:30 a.m., failing to pull over after they noticed his swerving car — which almost struck a patrol car, the outlet said. CHP said an incident at his home may have prompted his agitated mental state.

A witness near the incident said Callahan made a U-turn before sending his vehicle airborne.

“What may have been going through his mind to drive this fast?” CHP Officer Matt Zulim asked, according to the outlet. “And to do what he did in his car today…He jumped the San Joaquin River…”

Life once more imitates art…

…though in a far more impressive fashion!
