It’s Friday, February 5th, 2021…but before we begin, a couple quick thoughts on the passing scene, courtesy today of NRO‘s Zach Evans, who reports…

Impeachment Managers DEMAND Trump Testify at Senate Trial

First, though the emphasis on “demand” is ours, Zack’s headline is nonetheless at odds with both his story’s opening sentence and overall substance:

House impeachment managers have requested that former President Trump testify at his upcoming Senate impeachment trial.

Impeachment manager Jamie Raskin (D., Md.) sent a letter to Trump’s legal team requesting the testimony…”

Second, and far more important, is what follows:

Raskin argued that the testimony was needed because Trump denied allegations set forth in the article of impeachment, which accuses the former president of “incitement of insurrection.”

“Two days ago, you filed an Answer in which you denied many factual allegations set forth in the article of impeachment,” Raskin wrote. “You have thus attempted to put critical facts at issue notwithstanding the clear and overwhelming evidence of your constitutional offense. In light of your disputing these factual allegations, I write to invite you to provide testimony under oath, either before or during the Senate impeachment trial, concerning your conduct on January 6, 2021.”

“If you decline the invitation, we reserve any and all rights, including the right to establish at trial that your refusal to testify supports a strong adverse inference regarding your actions (and inaction) on January 6, 2021.” Raskin continued…”

So much…

…for the presumption of innocence granted every American under the law.  Is it any wonder The Donald declined the invitation?!?

Spoiler alert!!!: The Dimocrats just provided a glimpse of what will constitute due process for every American should they ever successfully subvert the Constitution and enshrine their two-tiered system of injustice.

And here’s the juice: Pay attention to what emanates from The Left in the coming weeks, as they’ll be giving voice to their deepest totalitarian dreams and desires.

Now, owing to our having made rather merry last night, here’s a somewhat belated edition of The Gouge!

First up, we stand corrected concerning our prediction the Sunrise, FL shooter, owing to him not being identified, would turn out to be a perpetrator of color.

However, we continue to stand by our two other assertions.

The Thirty Tyrants

The deal that the American elite chose to make with China has a precedent in the history of Athens and Sparta

In Chapter 5 of The Prince, Niccolo Machiavelli describes three options for how a conquering power might best treat those it has defeated in war. The first is to ruin them; the second is to rule directly; the third is to create “therein a state of the few which might keep it friendly to you.”

The example Machiavelli gives of the last is the friendly government Sparta established in Athens upon defeating it after 27 years of war in 404 BCE. For the upper caste of an Athenian elite already contemptuous of democracy, the city’s defeat in the Peloponnesian War confirmed that Sparta’s system was preferable. It was a high-spirited military aristocracy ruling over a permanent servant class, the helots, who were periodically slaughtered to condition them to accept their subhuman status. Athenian democracy by contrast gave too much power to the low-born. The pro-Sparta oligarchy used their patrons’ victory to undo the rights of citizens, and settle scores with their domestic rivals, exiling and executing them and confiscating their wealth.

The Athenian government disloyal to Athens’ laws and contemptuous of its traditions was known as the Thirty Tyrants, and understanding its role and function helps explain what is happening in America today…”

And explain the author does, in great, gory, and accurate detail.

Writing at his Morning Jolt, Jim Geraghty terms it an…

“…exhaustively researched, thought-provoking essay about how most U.S. financial, political, and cultural elites have bound their fates to a continued good relationship with the Chinese government. Now that their fortunes are dependent upon access to the Chinese market, these elites cannot let anything — not the Uyghurs, not Hong Kong, and not the Chinese government’s recklessness in the early days of the pandemic — get in the way of that.

If you read nothing else over the weekend, your time will have been well spent, as we’ve never viewed a more compelling account of the manner in which the nation’s corporate, financial and government nobility…including members of our Military…have and are selling out the country for personal profit, and why the Swamp…which extends far beyond the Beltway…needed Trump gone.

Moving on, we offer five other items we trust you’ll find of interest:

(1). Since we’re on the subject of elites concerned only with perpetuating their accumulation of power and wealth, Biden reviving Obama’s ‘catch and release’ policy at border amid a purported pandemic means one of two things: either the Wuhan lockdowns are a scam designed to further cow an already frightened populace, or there’s no limit to the pain and suffering Progressives are willing to inflict upon America if it solidifies their grip on power.

(2). When it comes to AOC not actually having been in the Capitol during the riot…

…in the best tradition of Dan Rather and Brian Williams, Fredo Cuomo and Don Lemon believe “It doesn’t have to be real, the threat, for you to believe it’s imminent.  The Capitol Police Lieutenant who shot an unarmed Ashli Babbitt couldn’t agree more.

(3). For those still doubting Orwell’s dystopian vision of the future is upon us, the fact a New York Slimes columnist has turned to Team 46* to “help solve our reality crisis” by appointing a “reality czar” to combat “disinformation” should serve to clinch it.

(4.) In a related item of unauthorized government intrusion into constitutionally-protected spaces, CA Congressperson Speier is calling for screening of service members’ social media accounts, just as SecDef Lloyd Austin ordered a 60-day Armed Forces-wide stand-down to confront “extremism“.  Or, perhaps more accurately, WHITE, FAR-RIGHT extremism, the threat from which “pales” in comparison to Islamic extremism, whose adherents actually and repeatedly have claimed American lives while in the ranks of our Military.

(5). The Law of Unintended But Easily Foreseeable Consequences strikes again, as Kroger closes two grocery stores after Long Beach officials pass $4/hour ‘hazard pay’ increase for employees.  The impact government wage intervention just had on Long Beach is coming soon to the rest of the country, as evidenced by this graphic…

…highlighting the states (depicted in red) whose consumers…and workers…will suffer most from a competition-killing $15/hour federal minimum wage.  The colors can only be coincidence!
