It’s Friday, March 12th, 2021…but before we begin, consider the following forwarded by our old friend Wink Martindale:

Every night we go to bed without any assurance of waking up the next morning. That’s HOPE.

We plan for tomorrow despite having no knowledge whatsoever what the future will bring. That’s CONFIDENCE.

We see the world suffering, but don’t despair; rather we continue to support our friends, family and neighbors here at home, and help others in need around the world whenever possible. That’s LOVE.

We do these things because we know for certain the same God who created the heavens and the earth still controls the universe today, and will remain in control for all eternity. That’s FAITH.

To which we can only add a hale and hearty “AMEN”, for is God is for us, who can stand against us?

Now, here’s The Gouge!

First up, if you ever wanted proof the editorial page is the only Conservative section of the WSJ, consider this clip from its account of Merrick Garland’s confirmation:

The Senate confirmed Merrick Garland as Biden’s attorney general, putting a respected jurist and experienced former prosecutor in charge of a Justice Department poised to confront a rising threat of domestic extremism and aggressively enforce civil-rights law amid a nationwide reckoning on race and policing.

Mr. Garland, 68 years old, was confirmed in a 70-30 vote, with both Democrats and Republicans hailing him as uniquely equipped to restore morale, stability and institutional integrity to a Justice Department roiled by political storms during the Trump administration.

Sorry, are we talking about the same Justice Department which, under a half-Black President and a Black Attorney General, initiated Operation Crossfire Hurricane, a plot to influence and eventually overturn the results of a lawful election?!?  The same Justice Department whose more infamous alumni include, but are by no means limited to, the likes of Eric Holder, Loretta Lynch, Sally Yates, James Comey, Rod Rodenstein, Andrew McCabe, Peter Strzok and Lisa Page?!?  Oh,…THAT Justice Department.

Yet the Journal would have us believe a bunch of costumed yahoos rioting in the Capitol building and the suicide-by-fentanyl by a career criminal somehow constitute the greatest existential threats to the country.

Since we’re on the subject of criminals still awaiting indictment, writing at NRO, Ingrid Jacques introduces us to…

The Andrew Cuomo of the Midwest

Gretchen Whitmer, Michigan’s governor, is avoiding accountability for her deadly coronavirus nursing-home policies.

Last August, Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer joined New York governor Andrew Cuomo in a statement blasting the Trump administration’s Justice Department for daring to request data related to nursing-home deaths in their respective states. The governors — both Democrats — claimed this was “nothing more than a transparent politicization of the Department of Justice in the middle of the Republican National Convention.”

Whitmer and Cuomo complained that the federal officials simply were targeting their states and several others under Democratic control for partisan purposes. That wasn’t the reason. Rather, it had to do with governors who put in place dangerous policies impacting nursing homes in their responses to COVID-19. Governors such as Whitmer and Cuomo have acted with tremendous power for the past year, unilaterally making decisions impacting their states in the name of combating a health emergency. And they have a lot to answer for.

Whitmer may now regret her chummy relationship with Cuomo. Given the recent bombshell that Cuomo and his staff fudged New York’s numbers to make the state’s nursing-home deaths appear rosier than they were, it’s extremely apparent that public officials can’t be trusted to be open with citizens, regardless of how many times they say “science and data” (one of Whitmer’s favorite catchphrases) are guiding their decisions…”

As Rich noted in one of his recent rants, “So much for Gretch ‘keeping us safe’, as my liberal friends there assert.  Even if all these Democrat tyrants escape the law here – there is another court with no escape, no appeal.”

Speaking of those who’ll be accompanying Private Hudson to the infernal regions…

The Smug Arrogance Of The ‘Science’ Crowd

Last summer, fed up with Democrats’ claim that theirs is the “Party of Science,” we pointed out that it is in reality the Party of Science Fiction. We hope others have had their fill, too, and public opinion will force the Democrats to grow up.

“Science” is never invoked by the political left to illuminate, educate, or guide. It’s used to terminate discussion, to shut down debate. It’s employed in exactly the same way “racist” has been used for decades. Not as a legitimate charge but a bomb thrown into a conversation in an effort to “other” the person or persons the smear is directed toward. It’s a means of closing off further dialogue, a bully’s tactic.

Those who respect an open marketplace of ideas, who believe that more speech rather than less is healthy for society, might wonder why the left wants to halt debate. It’s a good question with a clear and obvious answer: The zealous adherents to progressive politics know their ideas are empty of substance and therefore need to shout down, cancel, and indict those who dare think differently.

C.S. Lewis said “those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.” It’s just as true that those who are persuaded of their own righteousness will subjugate us without a moment’s hesitancy(In camps, given half a chance!)

Remember this the next time Democrats try to justify a new program, increased wealth redistribution, or an abridgment of liberty by urging the country to trust the “experts,” who just happen to be the researchers, academics, and intellectuals the left agrees with.

Curiously enough, just such a new program of wealth redistribution is the subject of this next item from FOX forwarded by The Boss, as pale-skinned…

Farmers react to billions in COVID-19 relief bill for Black farmers: ‘Where did common sense go?’

The $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package that President Biden is set to sign includes billions of dollars in debt relief and other assistance for farmers of color.

But the incorporation of race-based criteria for that relief is leaving other farmers scratching their heads. “Just because you’re a certain color you don’t have to pay back money? I don’t care if you’re purple, black, yellow, white, gray, if you borrow money you have to pay it back,” Kelly Griggs, who runs her 1,800-acre farm with her husband in Humboldt, Tennessee, told Fox News in an interview.

“My reaction is, where did common sense go?” Griggs said. We can’t strike. We can’t stop. That’s the part that really sucks. These people in Washington who make decisions for us and our livelihood have probably never stepped foot on a real farm.”

The relief package includes an estimated $4 billion to pay up to 120% of Black, Hispanic, Asian or Native American farmers’ outstanding debt as of Jan. 1, according to the American Farm Bureau Federation…”

But hey, no fraud, waste or abuse there; okay, maybe there’s some, but not much, at least according to New York’s Tommy “The Swindler” Suozzi:

As for common sense, that train left the tracks when, in 2008, millions of guilt-ridden White Americans who’d never owned slaves nor discriminated against anyone on the basis of their skin color attempted to atone for those in the distant past who did by electing an utterly unqualified half-Black Socialist President.

Next, we offer nine items specially selected for the inquiring mind:

(1). NRO’s Dan McLaughlin details a bad day in court for universities and other serial violators of the First Amendment.

(2). The WSJ‘s Tunku Varadarajan reports the Swiss won’t miss the burqa, as voters ban the ‘face’ of Islamist separatism in Western society.

(3). Sky News Australia relates how yet another fabricated claim of racism bites the dust.  Interestingly enough, Tucker had a 7+ minute segment on the same subject, yet failed to mention the cafeteria was closed to students for the summer, and thus Oumou Kanoute was indeed trespassing, a rather pertinent point to omit.

(4). Five Oklahoma City police officers have been charged with manslaughter in shooting of a 15-year-old boy.  Stavian Rodriguez was shot by officers responding to reports of an attempted armed robbery.  You can watch this video of the shooting and decide for yourself, but it’s our opinion (A) the age of the suspect was immaterial, and (B) anyone stupid enough to climb out a window with a gun while surrounded by law enforcement screaming at them to drop it, THEN after finally and belatedly doing so lowers their hands and reaches behind their back kinda, sorta determined their own fate.  And while we certainly don’t rejoice in Stavian’s death, there’s no way an Oklahoma jury convicts these cops, making this a politically-correct waste of government resources and taxpayer dollars.

(5). In a forward from Ed Hickey, WND‘s Michael Master echoes a refrain we’ve voiced before, suggesting it’s time for a vote on TEXITWe’re in!!!

(6). Jim Geraghty wonders will the WHO ACTUALLY EVER discover the origin of the Wuhan virus?  Geraghty’s column is well worth your time, if only to marvel at his continued equivocation in the face of facts surrounding said origin as damning as the evidence of Clinton family corruption.

(7). In a related item, Jim Freeman marks the 1-year anniversary of the scamdemic by recounting the staggering collateral damage the government’s response continues to inflict on the country, a response largely based upon a 14-year-old girl’s high school science project…a response which was universally opposed by every leading epidemiologist and virologist in the country when it was proposed back in 2006/2007.

(8). Courtesy of Speed, an investigation by Wisconsin Spotlight reveals hundreds of pages of emails and other documents which show that grant money from private left-leaning groups, funded largely by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, resulted in Democrat activists infiltrating the November presidential election in Wisconsin’s five largest cities.  No electoral fraud here, folks…please move along.

(9). Breeze Gould sent us a Navy Times report relaying how sailors on the USS Connecticut say the fast-attack sub has been ravaged by bed bugs. “People are terrified of getting bit,” one petty officer added. “Terrified”…by bed bugs.  Something tells us the Battling Bastards of Bastogne wouldn’t recognize our modern Military.  Hells bells, WE don’t recognize it!

Which brings us to The Lighter Side:

Then there’s this string from Balls Cotton…

…two from Speed…

…four from The Penguin…

…along with one each from Bad Billy…

…Brenda Berry…

…and last, but certainly never least, the lovely Shannon:

Finally, we’ll call it a wrap with another twisted tale torn from the pages of The Crime Blotter, this time from the Land Down Undah, as…

The truck driver involved in Melbourne’s tragic Eastern Freeway crash has pleaded guilty to culpable driving causing the deaths of four police officers.

Singh’s semi-trailer refrigeration truck ploughed into the police officers from behind in the emergency lane of the freeway after they had pulled over 42-year-old Richard Pusey in Kew. Leading Senior Constable Lynette Taylor, Constable Glen Humphris, Senior Constable Kevin King and Constable Joshua Prestney were killed in the crash.

The court heard Singh was in the grips of an ice binge and had not slept for three days. Data from the truck showed he only hit the brakes at the moment of impact, while traveling at 87km/h. Documents revealed Singh’s colleagues had raised concerns about him prior to the crash after he admitted to nodding off behind the wheel…”

In an disgusting example of life imitating art straight from the final episode of Seinfeld, the aforementioned…

Richard Pusey man admits to filming, taunting dying policewoman

Victoria’s police minister condemning his comments as “completely sickening.”

An Australian man pleaded guilty this week to filming and mocking dying police officers at a crash scene last year, according to reports. Richard Pusey, 42, was in his Porsche on a Melbourne freeway when he was pulled over by four officers for allegedly speeding. The officers were then struck by a passing truck that had veered out of its lane — all four died.

Pusey avoided the crash but he filmed the dying officers for more than three minutes, which he shared with his friends, according to the BBC. At one point he stood over and taunted a female police officer, who was pinned under the truck, the report said. “There you go, amazing, absolutely amazing. All I wanted to do was go home and have some sushi and now you f—ed my f—ing car,” Pusey said, according to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

Pusey, a mortgage broker, fled the scene and was arrested at his home after the crash. He was initially charged with speeding, drug possession and reckless conduct offenses. Police later discovered the video he recorded.

Under Australian law, there is no maximum penalty for the charge of outraging public decency, and it is rarely prosecuted, reports said. Prosecutors referred to the 2007 case of Anthony Anderson, who was jailed for three years for urinating on a dying woman after she collapsed in a United Kingdom street…”

Pusey already enjoyed a certain notoriety as a complete a*shole, having been featured earlier on A Current Affair screaming at a cancer victim whose husband he refused to pay for services rendered…

…and more recently as the subject of a rooftop standoff with police:

Wow…

A peach, alright…a peach rotten to its narcissistic pit.

Magoo

P.S. We’ll be heading down to North Carolina for a wedding this weekend, so, ’til Wednesday…
